Roddy Piper is perhaps the greatest orator that ever existed in the wrestling business. When ‘Hot Rod’ spoke, you listened. There was something intangible that made the fans gravitate towards Piper, and one story involving Piper made all the headlines in the mid-'80s, albeit for all the wrong reasons.
Piper, Don Muraco and ‘Cowboy’ Bob Orton decided to grab a few drinks while in Fresno, and Piper innocuously (or at least as he claimed) saw someone to his left getting knocked down. Piper allegedly picked up the bartender, and proceeded to slam him to the ground! The trio then took off, but what happened next left the WWE management completely perplexed.
Their rental car was found on the train tracks, and by the time they reached their hotel, there were over a 100 cops waiting for the notorious trio! While Piper and Muraco pledged their innocence, Bob Orton wasn’t having any of it.
Orton Sr. reportedly stepped out of his room, which was on the fifth floor, irate and completely naked. Bob Orton then challenged the cops to a fight, before being tasered twice! He was then given the opportunity to put some clothes on, and the Superstars were locked up but were released the next day.
