The Shield has been the primary focus of RAW programming over the past few weeks and the viewership has been dismal. This cannot be attributed only to The Shield, but also to the stiff competition that they've been facing. However, it still stands to reason that The Shield is not the draw that WWE assumed they were. Therefore, splitting up The Shield may actually generate more interest in the product.

And if The Shield does split up, who better to turn on his brothers than the Lunatic Fringe? He's the guy who needs it the most, and is the man with the most logical reason to potentially do so. If I was a casual viewer, I'd be interested to watch the product once again.
Remember how the 'Red Wedding' in Game of Thrones got everyone excited about the show again, after a few weaker episodes? This could potentially be a very similar moment.
