The first-ever Women's Money in the Bank ladder match took place in 2017.

In fact, there were two Women's Money in the Bank bouts in the space of a few days due to the controversy that surrounded the initial match at Money in the Bank 2017.

There was controversy regarding Carmella and James Ellsworth. The latter stole the title on Carmella's behalf to help her win the first-ever Money in the Bank contest for women. This resulted in a rematch that took place on SmackDown.

Overall, since the first Women's Money in the Bank ladder match, 18 female WWE Superstars have competed in it.

The majority of today's roster has taken part in the multi-person bout, including Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Becky Lynch, Asuka, and Natalya.

The female version of this match is now a permanent fixture in the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.
