The WWE is a business, and like every business, from a family run affair to a global franchise like McDonald's, there are rules that have to be obeyed.

Rules are meant to protect the company's reputation from Superstars who may disrespect the WWE, as well as protect the Superstar from making simple mistakes that could harm their careers down the line.

But for all the simple rules that the WWE has to help their talent, there are just as many weird rules it enforces. These rules have left many members of the WWE Universe scratching their heads as they wonder why on earth any Superstar would agree to them, yet every single one does.

Here are 5 weird rules every single WWE Superstars has to follow.

#5: Dress smart, unless it's promotional

WWE Superstars are supposed to be representatives of the company, and in this digital age where they are just as likely to be photographed outside of the ring than whilst in it, it is important to dress the part.

According to the WWE rules, male Superstars are expected to dress in suits when travelling, so they look professional at all times if they are seen by a fan.

Whilst this must no doubt get uncomfortable for the men of RAW, SmackDown Live, 205 Live and NXT, they have recently been given an alternative: they can dress in casual clothes, as long as it's TapOut gear.

This rule change came following the company's deal with the brand and must have come as a huge relief for many Superstars who are now allowed to travel on the road in style as well as comfort.

#4: Extra appearances doesn't mean extra money

With WrestleMania 35 on the horizon, you might start seeing more and more WWE Superstars appearing on non-WWE TV.

For as long as the WWF has been the sports entertainment juggernaut that it is, these appearances have happened, with late night talk shows often being the place of choice to see Superstars outside of the ring.

But even though the Superstars are appearing on shows, that doesn't mean they get paid for it, as public appearances such as these are classed as the standard for all WWE Superstars.

With that said, the WWE does pay for accommodations if they're necessary, but not paying talent to go into the mainstream media and promote your show definitely seems to be one of the weirdest rules that the WWE has made.

#3: Longevity is more important than talent

Everyone likes getting paid right? After a long period of hard work, getting to open that paycheck and think of all the stuff you new-found wealth will go towards. Well in WWE, things are a little weird, as it is often longevity that determines a Superstar's price, instead of actual in-ring ability.

For example, someone like The Big Show, who let's admit it, is far past his prime, is still raking in millions from the company, despite barely wrestling. Meanwhile, some of the more talented and active Superstars in NXT, such as EC3 and Ricochet, may be putting on great matches but will make nowhere as much as the Giant.

Whilst these stars will see their paychecks increase in the coming years, you would think they'd be already on a great wage given their performances.

#2: Heels cannot travel with faces

When the Shield broke up in 2014, it was one of the toughest betrayals for the WWE Universe to endure.

But spare a thought for Seth Rollins, the traitor of the group, who according to WWE rules, was no longer allowed to travel with his long-time friends Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns.

In an interview, the Architect admitted that a ruling means that heels and faces cannot travel together, as the WWE aims to maintain kayfabe at all times, even when the talent is on the road.

Whilst it may seem silly to do this, especially in an era where the lines between good and bad have been blurred, I commend WWE for keeping up kayfabe, especially if a young fan was to see heels and faces travel together and have the illusion shattered.

#1: Download the private app

When you make it to WWE, you sure get told what you mustn't do a lot, but one thing you must do is download the company's hidden app.

According to Zack Ryder, who spoke on the Edge and Christian show, new Superstars are ordered to download an app, which contains all their booking information, travel information and anything else they need.

Reportedly replacing emails as the company's go-to form of communication, the hidden App is exclusive for talent and goes to show just how much the company has progressed in the digital age, with Superstars now able to receive huge updates to their schedules instantly, without having to go through hordes of emails.

Whilst the app does seem mysterious, it seems the majority of us will never see what this exclusive app looks like.
