Recently we’ve heard from the WWE commentary team many times that Drew McIntyre is The Chosen One. But many of us may not know the story behind this line for him.

On September 25, 2009, SmackDown hosted Vince McMahon’s famous speech. Vince stated that he had personally signed McIntyre to the brand because McIntyre reminded Vince of himself. In the same statement, Vince predicted that you would be a “future World heavyweight champion”.

Vince saw something in McIntyre which most didn’t at the time. Even though McIntyre’s first run with the WWE wasn’t all that glorious and glamorous, his release from the company and eventual return led to him being polished to such a level that almost a decade later he is ready to take down any competition that comes his way.

Drew has revealed the following regarding Vince’s speech of 2009: “He was right. I always say that the man can see the future in many areas of wrestling. He created modern wrestling. He was 100 per cent right. The timing might have been a little bit off.”
