Night 1 of WrestleMania 37 kicked off with the WWE Championship match as Bobby Lashley defended his title against Drew McIntyre. With very clear face-heel dynamics in this match and it being the first match in over a year in front of a live crowd, the general expectations were for Drew McIntyre to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 37.

As reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Drew McIntyre was the likely winner of the WWE Championship match.

"The expectation is Drew McIntyre will win and the big crowd reaction, says the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, and that’s why his match against Bobby Lashley was moved to the first match on night one of WrestleMania 37."

He added that the only way he saw Bobby Lashley retaining was if The Hurt Business came out to help him win, revealing the split to be a swerve. However, Bobby Lashley won the match in dominating fashion by making Drew McIntyre pass out to the Hurt Lock. It is yet to be seen whether this rivalry will continue into the post-WrestleMania season.
