Whoever sanctioned the signing of Ronda Rousey deserves a pat on their back. The former UFC Women's Bantamweight champion has seamlessly adjusted to life as a pro wrestler and has indubitably exceeded all the expectations that were pinned on her when she officially announced her arrival at the Royal Rumble last year.
Whether it is her in-ring skills or promos, Rousey has excelled in all aspects of the orchestrated sport of entertainment. She may come off as an amateur on the microphone every now and then but she still does a better job at it than Titus O'Neil.
Women's wrestling is at its peak as we speak and everyone on the roster, not just Becky Lynch, should be credited for the quality of programming we've consistently witnessed. However, Rowdy's mainstream appeal has helped heighten the impact of the women and the way they have been portrayed in recent months.
It gets even better as in the bid to amp up the ratings, WWE has teased the return of intergender wrestling. There are a host of tantalizing matches at the creative's disposal and for the purpose of this slider, we'll be focusing on the queen of the women's division (sorry Charlotte), Ronda Rousey.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
It should be noted that this is a fantasy list as many of the matches may not actually come to fruition, though, if it does, will surely be a treat to watch.
#1 Brock Lesnar
It will never happen, yes, but wishful thinking is one of the most satisfying aspects of pro wrestling.
The former UFC Champions are the only two superstars that can be major draws inside the squared circle as well as the Octagon. Their respective track records speak for themselves.
And of course, who wouldn't want to see two of the biggest stars from either side of the spectrum of the WWE in a proper fight? We all know the Beast Incarnate will win the proposed match with ease but we are all up for seeing the two in a shoot-style encounter.
The distinct in-ring styles of Lesnar and Rousey could mesh well with each other and it's a fun dream match when you think about it. Imagine Lesnar trapped in a Rousey armbar. Paul Heyman would be like...
#2 Randy Orton
The Viper got one of the best pops of Royal Rumble 2019 when he delivered the RKO to Nia Jax. The spot was made to look even better by the perfect selling of Jax.
That one moment from the Rumble match makes us believe that a heel Orton would make for a viable opponent for a clean cut babyface in Ronda Rousey.
We all know that a sadistic Randy Orton is best for business. The Apex Predator kissing an unconscious Stephanie McMahon while a handcuffed Triple H watched on was ridiculous and wicked at the same time.
We can only imagine the outrageous things that Orton can be allowed to do in an angle with Rowdy with the WWE pushing the boundaries of PG TV off late. The 13-time WWE Champion could also put on a really well-worked match with the Raw Women’s Champion considering he is a master at pacing and composing bouts.
#3 Finn Balor
Now don't get me wrong here, but Finn Balor seems like one of the only big-name male superstars in the WWE that can actually be booked to lose to Rousey (Ambrose too because he's leaving). Knowing WWE Creative and how they've booked Balor in the past, we wouldn't be surprised to see the former Universal Champion eat the pin. And, Rousey is been made to look like an absolute killer!
However, if he shows up as the Demon King, from a storyline perspective, Ronda shouldn't stand a chance. Win or lose, Balor vs. Rousey promises to be a wild matchup.
While Balor is a decent babyface character, he seems to be a superstar who may do much better as a bad guy just like in the case of Orton. The heel turn has been long overdue for the former Bullet Club leader and a match between Rousey and Balor only makes sense if the latter taps into his unlikeable persona.
#4 Triple H
HHH vs. Rousey is the most realistic option on this list given the history between the two superstars. The UFC Hall of Famer has been booked like an unstoppable force who never backs down from a fight, even if it's the legendary Game staring into her eyes.
The feud needs no build-up whatsoever as the backstory is enough to get the match going. The Game is now back as the on-screen authority figure which adds another dimension to the feud if the WWE decides to revisit it, strictly in terms of a one-on-one match.
It's quite obvious that Triple H had a big role to play in Rousey's impressive debut performance at WrestleMania 34. They seem to have great chemistry too and just like his protege Orton, the Cerebral Assasin is an old vet who is adept at telling a compelling story inside the ring.
#5 Kurt Angle
The battle between the Olympic medalists has the potential to bring in tons of hype if booked correctly. Kurt Angle was Rousey's mentor going into her first ever pro wrestling match which can obviously be incorporated into the storyline.
It doesn't even matter if both superstars are babyfaces as it is one of those angles that may actually work without a heel in the picture, considering the fan favourite statuses of both Angle and Rousey.
Angle is at the tail end of his career and is expected to wrestle his retirement match at WrestleMania 35. Thus, it's highly improbable that we may get to see Rousey go up against the former WWE Champion but it still is sensible bout to book as there are many connections that can be exploited for the sake of a short feud. How does a submission match between the two sound, eh?
