In 2012, a tag team called The Prime Time Players was formed by two new WWE Superstars, Darren Young, and Titus O'Neil. Both Young and O'Neil were a part of the game-show version of WWE NXT where participants were termed as 'rookies' and were each assigned a particular WWE Superstar as their mentor.

Young participated in the first season while O'Neil was a part of the second season. After that, he was again featured on NXT Redemption, the show's fifth season. The two Superstars initially were rivals and feuded with each other and after some point formed an alliance.

The Prime Time Players made their debut on the main roster as a heel tag team on the April 20, 2012 episode of WWE SmackDown by picking up a win over The Usos. They disbanded in 2014 after O'Neil turned heel by brutally attacking Young for losing in a match. They reformed again in 2015 after O'Neil saved Young from a beatdown at the hands of The Ascension.

They then had a title run with the WWE Tag Team Championship and once again disbanded and got into a feud with each other in 2016. Darren Young left WWE in 2017 and currently competes in independent wrestling promotions under the name of Fred Rosser. His former tag team partner Titus O'Neil is still associated with WWE.

Current WWE commentator Percy Watson was once an active professional wrestler and he competed on the fifth season of WWE NXT named NXT Redemption. Initially, Titus O'Neil and Percy Watson were good friends with each other and Darren Young had a heated rivalry with O'Neil.

After O'Neil lost to Young in a decisive No Disqualification match on an episode of NXT, The Real Deal lost his cool and berated the WWE Universe and turned his back on his mentor, Hornswoggle thus turning heel in the process. When he urged his friend Watson to turn his back on the fans and join him, the 'Showtime' refused which led to a feud between the two.

In an interesting turn of events, O'Neil ended up allying with his once nemesis Darren Young in what was the inception of The Prime Time Players. The team of O'Neil and Young faced Watson and Alex Riley in which Young picked up the victory for his team by pinning Watson after O'Neil caused a distraction. After the match, O'Neil insulted Watson and the fans.

After this, The Prime Time Players made their way to the main roster and continued with their winning streak for a short time.

The team of Titus O'Neil and Darren Young made their main roster debut on the April 20, 2012 episode of WWE SmackDown against The Usos. The Uso brothers, Jimmy and Jey started the match with momentum and at one point it looked like they were going to put away the team of O'Neil and Young.

However, O'Neil rallied back when Jimmy was on the verge of putting Young away after he hit him with a running hip attack in the corner. He broke up the pin and shoved Jey Uso out of the ring and then pinned Jimmy Uso after hitting him with their Ghetto Blaster double-team move.

This marked a momentous win for the debutant team of O'Neil and Young against an already established tag-team. The Prime Time Players would then go on to enjoy a winning streak and later earn themselves an opportunity at winning tag team gold.

The match was filled with dangerous spots which particularly included The Lucha Dragons' Sin Cara and Kalisto taking to the air to perform aerial attacks.

Even though Titus O'Neil and Darren Young were unsuccessful in their attempt to win the Tag Team Championship, they delivered a memorable performance that is worthy of praise. They were the last team to be eliminated when O'Neil was pinned by The New Day but before that, they etched a name for themselves in the match by eliminating The Ascension and the team of Cesaro & Tyson Kidd.

Their moment of tag team glory would come a few months after their performance at Elimination Chamber.

Darren Young and Titus O'Neil defended their WWE Tag Team Championship against The New Day at WWE Battleground in 2015. The New Day thought of changing things up from their last encounter by replacing Xavier Woods with Kofi Kingston.

However, the team of Big E and Kofi Kingston could not topple The Prime Time Players from their throne of tag team supremacy. The duo of Young and O'Neil successfully retained their titles against The New Day after O'Neil pinned Big E with his Clash of the Titus finishing move.

However, their reign as champions would soon come to an end when they would lose the titles to The New Day at that year's SummerSlam in a fatal four-way tag team match.
