Brock Lesnar's relationship with Vince McMahon soured more and more with each passing day, in early 2004. Following his WWE exit after WrestleMania 20, Brock Lesnar was involved in a motorcycle accident that crushed his NFL dreams. Before he made his way to NJPW, Brock Lesnar had a meeting with Vince McMahon, where the two parties discussed a possible return to WWE. Vince McMahon wanted Brock Lesnar to start from the bottom again, and Lesnar didn't like it one bit.

Brock Lesnar didn't want to sign a "rookie deal with rookie money" with Vince McMahon, and the two parties engaged in a fierce legal battle over Lesnar going to NJPW and breaching his contract terms with WWE. Brock Lesnar went on to bag success in NJPW and became the IWGP Heavyweight Champion on one occasion. Lesnar would come back to WWE years later, and kick off another successful run in the company.
