The Bludgeon Brothers may have earned themselves their first huge tag team match for 2019

After a successful run as part of The Wyatt Family, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan could not find much to do in their respective singles careers. Both men have usually worked well with a partner or as henchmen, and are not very good on the mic. Battling alone has always been a problem for the two.

During the latter part of 2017, the duo decided to join forces once again. On the October 10th episode of SmackDown, Harper and Rowan returned in a repackaged vignette with shortened names, wielding mallets, and calling themselves Bludgeon Brothers.

In the weeks that followed, the two men ran through their competition in squash matches and went on to become the SmackDown Tag Team Champions at WrestleMania 34. The duo had an excellent win/loss record, which established them as a top tag team in WWE.

While the team did not compete during the latter part of 2018 and most of 2019, Harper returned at the 2019 Clash of Champions to help Rowan win his match against Roman Reigns. On the SmackDown Live that followed the pay-per-view, the two men beatdown Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns in a vicious assault and we no know for certain that the Bludgeon Brothers are back with a vengeance.

Clash of Champions 2017 hosted some memorable matches which included Dolph Ziggler’s second United States Championship win after defeating Baron Corbin and Bobby Roode in a Triple Threat Match.

Later in the pay-per-view, The Bludgeon Brothers faced Breezango (Fandango and Tyler Breeze) in a tag team match. This marked their very first PPV match as The Bludgeon Brothers.

The match lasted less than two minutes, as Harper and Rowan performed a double crucifix powerbomb on Fandango, after they slammed Breeze's face onto the ring apron. Rowan pinned Fandango for the win.

After the squash, the duo sent a warning to the entire tag team division by saying that, "It was the end of the beginning and the beginning of the end". The match established the new team and paved the way for their future winning streak, which involved many squash matches.

#4 WWE WrestleMania 34 (08/04/2018)

Over the years, WrestleMania has given fans some extremely memorable moments. The 34th edition of the pay-per-view is not only famous for the in-ring debut of Ronda Rousey, but also Asuka’s first WWE loss, and The Undertaker’s squash match against John Cena.

Apart from that, the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match was one of the biggest matches of the night. The Usos defended their titles against The Bludgeon Brothers and The New Day in a Triple Threat Match.

During the bout, The Usos' teamwork allowed them to slow Harper and Rowan, and get over in the match by suplexing Rowan on to the floor.

However, the two big men fought back and laid out their rivals before putting Kofi Kingston away. After an aided superbomb, Harper pinned Kingston to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

The Bludgeon Brothers won their first Tag Team Titles together by putting away two of WWE’s most well-established tag teams. This served notice to the rest of the WWE roster and allowed The Bludgeon Brothers to become a force to reckoned with in the months ahead.

#3 WWE Greatest Royal Rumble (27/04/2018)

The Bludgeon Brothers vs. The Usos

Just weeks after their defeat at the hands of The Bludgeon Brothers, The Usos defeated The New Day to earn their rematch for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. The match was set for the Greatest Royal Rumble, which was held in Saudi Arabia for the first time.

On a night where Braun Strowman won the Greatest Royal Rumble, John Cena redeemed himself by defeating Triple H, and The Undertaker buried Rusev, The Bludgeon Brothers could also smell success.

Jimmy and Jey Uso put up a great fight against the two larger men, but their attack couldn’t last more than five minutes, as the champions performed The Reckoning on Jimmy Uso.

The challengers put on a much better performance than their previous bout and the match did enough to establish The Bludgeon Brothers as dominating champions.

#2 WWE Extreme Rules 2018 (15/07/2018)

The Bludgeon Brothers vs. Team Hell No

At a time when it seemed like no team was a match for The Bludgeon Brothers, the duo began to hunt down Daniel Byan. On the June 26th, 2018, episode of SmackDown, Kane made a surprise return to save Bryan from a post-match assault, reuniting Team Hell No in the process. SmackDown General Manager Paige then scheduled Team Hell No to face The Bludgeon Brothers for the tag titles at Extreme Rules.

During the event, Bobby Lashley enjoyed a big win against Roman Reigns, while Dolph Ziggler deafeated Seth Rollins in an epic Iron Man Match.

Before the SmackDown Tag Team Championship match could begin, Kane’s ankle was injured thanks to a backstage attack by The Bludgeon Brothers. Bryan was initially left to compete alone.

He put up a great defense before an injured Kane appeared midway through the match to participate and perform chokeslams on Harper and Rowan.

Kane’s offense could not keep the heels down for long, as Rowan and Harper performed a powerbomb/diving clothesline combination on Bryan to retain the titles.

Without a doubt, this was one of Bludgeon Brothers’ biggest matches ever.

#1 WWE SummerSlam 2018 (19/08/2018)

The Bludgeon Brothers vs. The New Day

On an episode of SmackDown Live before SummerSlam 2018, The New Day defeated Sanity and The Bar for a shot at the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. This earned them a one-way ticket to face the unstoppable Bludgeon Brothers at SummerSlam.

Big E and Xavier Woods stepped into the ring to face Rowan and Harper on a night where Roman Reigns haulted Brock Lesnar’s 504-day reign as Universal Champion and Ronda Rousey won her first RAW Women’s Championship.

The New Day proved to be the strongest competitors for The Bludgeon Brothers, as they gave them their longest match to date. After an elaborate battle, which lasted almost ten minutes, Harper and Rowan saw no escape. The match ended when Rowan struck Woods and Big E with a mallet, earning New Day the victory by disqualification. The result ended Rowan and Harper’s 133-day winning streak, however they managed to retain their titles.

On the SmackDown Live that followed SummerSlam, Rowan and Harper lost the titles to The New Day in a No DQ Match, ending their reign at 135 days. The following day, it was announced that Rowan had suffered a torn right bicep, sidelining him indefinitely and thereby disbanding The Bludgeon Brothers.
