With WWE WrestleMania 34 on the horizon, we are building up to the event by taking a look at five key facts about every match at this year’s “Showcase of the Immortals”.
In this article, we focus on a potential show-stealing Intercontinental Championship encounter between The Miz, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor.
Will Miz retain to keep alive his latest reign with the title? Will Rollins become IC champion for the first time in his career? Or will Balor get the win on his ‘Mania debut?

#5 The IC title was last retained on a WrestleMania main card in 2001
The Miz has talked a good game in recent weeks ahead of the upcoming Triple Threat match, but the stats certainly don’t look good for the current Intercontinental champion.
The IC title hasn’t been successfully defended on a WrestleMania main show since way back in 2001 when Chris Jericho retained his championship in a singles match against William Regal.
Since then, the title has been on the line in five main-show matches and it has changed hands every time (RVD won it at WM18, Rey Mysterio at WM25, Big Show at WM28, Daniel Bryan at WM31, and Zack Ryder at WM32).
#4 Seth Rollins has won at every WrestleMania event he’s competed at
While he isn’t undefeated at WWE's biggest show of the year, Seth Rollins has still been victorious at every WrestleMania event he has competed at.
At WrestleMania 29 and WrestleMania XXX, he teamed with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to defeat The Big Show, Randy Orton & Sheamus and Kane & The New Age Outlaws, respectively, and then he lost to Orton in a singles match at WrestleMania 31.
Of course, WrestleMania 31 still ended in victory for Rollins, who cashed in his Money In The Bank contract to win the WWE title in the main event between Reigns and Brock Lesnar, and then he was victorious again at WrestleMania 33 when he defeated Triple H.
#3 Finn Balor has never had a WrestleMania match
When Finn Balor officially signed with WWE in July 2014, most fans would have expected him to have had a WrestleMania match by the time 2018 came around.
However, he became an integral part of NXT’s early touring days and ended up spending two years with the brand, which meant he wasn’t part of WWE’s main roster in time to feature at either WrestleMania 31 or WrestleMania 32.
Last year, he recovered from a long-term shoulder injury in time to make it back for WrestleMania 33, but WWE decided to have him return the night after ‘Mania instead.
#2 The match will take place again on 27 April (with one addition)
It was announced by WWE this week that The Miz, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor will compete in a multi-man Intercontinental Championship ladder match at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia on 27 April.
However, instead of a Triple Threat, it will be a Fatal 4-Way which will also involve Samoa Joe, who will presumably return from injury in the next couple of weeks to build up to the match.
Cards are always subject to change, of course, but it looks like WWE is currently planning to continue the rivalry between the three WrestleMania opponents, plus Joe, after this year’s show in New Orleans.
#1 The Miz is closing in on a major IC title record
If The Miz defeats Seth Rollins and Finn Balor at WrestleMania 34, he will almost certainly go on to become the longest-reigning Intercontinental champion in WWE history within the next month.
“The A-Lister” will surpass Pedro Morales’ 619-day record if he keeps hold of the title until the 30 April episode of Raw, and his only confirmed title defence between WrestleMania and that date will be at the Greatest Royal Rumble event on 27 April.
Should the eight-time IC champion lose in either of the upcoming matches, his next mission would be to equal Chris Jericho’s record of nine reigns with the title.
