Even though the nature of WWE might be scripted combat, every man and woman competes for gold, within this sports entertainment environment. A Championship ascertains that the man or woman carrying it is exemplary at what he/she does. He/she is the top of the ladder. The king or queen of the food chain in WWE.
Championships also lend themselves wonderfully into storylines. Grudge matches are well and good, but somehow programs mean a lot more when a prize is at stake. The same can be said for other combat sports, whether MMA or boxing.
In this article, we suggest 5 new championships to just shake the product up from the very core. Each title could change the dynamics of the division concerned, and just make the product a lot more exciting than ever.
Could the introduction of these 5 Championships freshen up the storylines and feuds we see in WWE, on a weekly basis?
#5 Women's Tag Team Titles
At this point in time, there are more women on the roster than there has probably ever been in history. Unfortunately, only a handful of them make it to TV, because they have one Championship to compete for, on RAW, SmackDown Live and NXT.
How cool would it be to have Women's Tag Team Championships on any of the brands that we've mentioned? After all, most of the women are booked in multi women matches anyway. It would give the women who're not competing for the title, something to do.
After all, how shameful is it that women such as Carmella, Natalya and Becky Lynch don't make it to TV every week, despite the fact that they're so full of potential?! At least, it would ensure that the women have something to do every single week.
#4 A Secondary NXT Championship
The world's finest performers come to NXT to find their footing before they make their way to the main roster to make their mark. While a certain number of them compete at the highest level for the top prize, a significant number of them are never able to.
Imagine a secondary NXT Championship, to keep talents such as The Velveteen Dream, Kassius Ohno, Cezar Bononi and even EC 3 in the mix. There are a great number of grudge matches that happen in NXT, seemingly for no good reason at times. This title will eliminate the problem.
The women could benefit from the title as well. So many talents such as Becky Lynch, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce have never held the gold in NXT.
In our opinion, such a title can truly enhance the product by a good margin.
#3 The Hardcore Championship
What made the Hardcore Championship the most exciting title of the Attitude Era was the fact that it could be contested anywhere, at any time. This means that a random stroll in the backstage area could turn into a title match. Several superstars could benefit from this Championship. We have one lunatic in mind, above everyone else, really.
Dean Ambrose's character is often watered down because of the constraints of the current era. If the Hardcore Championship were to be brought back, the man could have a great deal of exciting programs as the centre-piece of the Championship, much like Mick Foley was during the Attitude Era.
#2 Cruiserweight Tag Team Titles
205 Live is slowly becoming the show it was always destined to be. Under the leadership of Triple H, the show is going from strength to strength right now. What 205 Live lacks at the moment is a tag team title. Because of the same, a lot many performers miss out.
Much like the women, the Tag Team Championship would give the Cruiserweights something to compete for. Look at NXT, with 3 titles in a 1-hour show. 205 Live on the other hand just has 1 title, that is currently vacant.
The Cruiserweight roster is extremely talented, and the announcement of a new championship may bring back a lot of old viewers to the product. We're certain that Triple H will book it in the right manner.
#1 6-Man Tag Team Championship
Be it The Shield (temporarily out of commission) or The New Day or The Miztourage or even the Balor Club, trios are running rampant in WWE right now. Add SAnitY and the Undisputed ERA who are waiting in the wings, and then you have the right stage to debut the 6-Man Tag Team Championship.
We even interviewed Gallows and asked him about it. He was of the opinion that the 6-Man Tag Team Championship could be a great addition to the existing product. We could even see unique teams being formed, because of this.
Imagine Bray Wyatt teaming up with Woken Matt and Brother Nero. Maybe Samoa Joe teams up with Cesaro and Sheamus.
The possibilities are endless.
