The main event of Summerslam 2017 also saw an existing record be extended. Since 2009, when CM Punk met Jeff Hardy in the main event of the show that year, every main event has seen either John Cena or Brock Lesnar make an appearance.

Before Summerslam 2017, that streak stood at seven, with Cena kicking it all off by defeating Nexus in 2010. Since then he has faced CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Brock Lesnar himself.

"The Beast", for his part, has taken on The Undertaker, Triple H and Randy Orton and has now defeated Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns to close out this year's summer extravaganza.

It's hardly surprising considering these two men have become so synonymous with WWE over the years, but perhaps with Cena becoming more of a part-timer, and with Brock looking like he might be UFC bound, 2018 may finally be the year to break the Cena-Lesnar streak at Summerslam.
