#4 Jinder Mahal is the first man to retain the WWE Championship on debut by winning

Jinder Mahal's recent fortunes have baffled many WWE fans. Previously thought of as no more than a comedy jobber, the "Modern Day Maharaja" now finds himself holding the WWE Championship.
To his credit, he has managed to circumnavigate a feud with Randy Orton, not somebody you would normally associate with putting guys over, and still wears the gold around his waist today.
Mahal's victory at Summerslam 2017 over Shinsuke Nakamura can also be seen as a piece of history. Never before has a WWE Superstar made their debut at Summerslam as the WWE Champion and won their match.
Two other men have made their debuts by competing as the WWE Champion but on both occasions, they managed to retain their belt despite losing. Yokozuna at 1993 lost to Lex Lugar by count out, and Sheamus avoided handing his title to Randy Orton at 2010, losing by DQ.
There have also been Superstars like Brock Lesnar who made their Summerslam debuts by winning the WWE Championship, but Jinder is the only man to walk in holding the belt, win a match (fairly clean) and leave with it too.
