This week's episode of NXT wasn't as strong as last week's episode was. After all, you cannot possibly hope to top a WarGames announcement, can you? What it did provide was an insight into WarGames. And the kind of carnage that we can expect at NXT Takeover: WarGames on Survivor Series weekend.
There were plenty of points to note, however, and we have five of the most salient ones listed here for your benefit and so that you read between the lines, with regard to the action that just transpired. Hope you enjoy our special countdown.
Here are 5 points to note from the latest episode of NXT TV.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 More than one subplot
There's a little under two weeks to go for NXT Takeover: WarGames from Houston and the action is certain to be fast and furious at the show. However, there are certain subplots that are being built around the show that should play out in an interesting manner over the next week or two.
Mercedes Martinez does not think Ember Moon can get it done when it matters, and Moon wants to prove the Mae Young Classic competitor wrong. Their match will play out next week. Ruby Riot and Sonya Deville have been at odds as well, and they're headed for a collision course, too, very soon.
We are curious to see how the tensions that have been building between Moss and Sabbatelli and The Street Profits will culminate in the ring as well, as we head into Takeover and the next round of tapings for NXT.
The future will be quite interesting from the looks of it.
#4 Big match set for NXT Takeover: WarGames
It is sometimes easy to forget that Kassius Ohno was once considered to be one of the men in The Shield. His career did not exactly pan out as he had expected it to, but he's in NXT again and he's ready to make a huge mark one more time.
This week, we saw him enter William Regal's office and request a match against Lars Sullivan at NXT Takeover: WarGames. Inspired by his recent streak of wins, Ohno wants to continue his run against Lars Sullivan. Reluctantly, Regal agreed to Ohno's demands and made the match official for the huge Takeover event.
This is a big match for Ohno, not just in kayfabe. With so much talent in NXT, sometimes talent like Kassius Ohno tends to get lost in the mix. It's a great chance for both men to impress in front of a loud and vocal crowd, and put themselves on the map for good.
Of course, we do not see Kassius Ohno winning this contest, considering how much NXT has been pushing Lars Sullivan.
#3 The next big thing?
Everyone who saw Tough Enough knew that Patrick Clark would be a very decent prospect for the future. Yes, he was eliminated from Tough Enough, but his NXT run seems to be going better than ever.
There are few men who embody and live their characters like The Velveteen Dream does. His moves are crisp, his offence looks deadly and he plays his gimmick to sheer perfection every time.
This week Cezar Bononi stepped up to the plate, and the Velveteen Dream manhandled the much bigger Brazilian sports entertainer, like he was a child, with total confidence and swagger. We believe sensational things lie in the future of The Velveteen Dream.
Of course, let's hope he impresses at NXT Takeover: WarGames in just under two weeks.
#2 The history of WarGames
Even if you've been a lifelong WWE fan, chances are that you may not have heard of WarGames unless you were a fan of WCW or NWA. This week on NXT, we saw a special glimpse into the history of the match.
To elaborate on the rules and the nature of the match, NXT called upon resident experts such as Goldust, Booker T and of course, Arn Anderson. NXT owes a lot to Dusty Rhodes, and this was their way of honouring the American Dream's legacy.
Paul Ellering, the man who commands and leads the Authors of Pain, was also a part of the first WarGames match, and it's a great way for this contest to come full circle, once again. This was a great package to familiarize new fans with the rules.
#1 A small WarGames preview
It was only supposed to be a one-on-one contest between Adam Cole and one Roderick Strong. When the action kicked into high gear, all hell broke loose immediately. All the WarGames teams would show up and chaos would ensue thereafter. Here is a glimpse of the carnage from NXT:
We cannot wait for NXT Takeover: WarGames to come around next weekend. If this was any indication, even without blood, the next edition of WarGames may be more power packed than every edition of the past.
WarGames Bay Bay!
