As mentioned in my previous post, NXT is shaping the future of the WWE by creating new superstars who will carry the company in the next decade. NXT was the home of some of the biggest WWE Superstars today, they include Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Drew McIntyre, Sasha Banks, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens.
Triple H has done a wonderful job of signing new talent on a regular basis, with new recruits like Matt Riddle, Keith Lee, Punishment Martinez, Dominik Dijakovic, Chelsea Green, and Io Shirai.
However, the WWE main roster is sometimes too overwhelming for some NXT talents called up. For every Reigns, Rollins, McIntyre, Zayn, or Owens, who do good on the main roster, there are superstars like Bo Dallas, Apollo Crews, Tyler Breeze, Tye Dillinger, and No Way Jose, who have not made a huge impact.
Here are five NXT Superstars who might not succeed on the main roster. It should be noted that this list only features male NXT talent.
#5 Ricochet
Many hardcore WWE fans do not want to hear this, but there is a chance Ricochet might not succeed on the main roster. Don't get me wrong, Ricochet is arguably the most talented superstar on NXT today.
His athleticism is unmatched, but he needs to work on his mic skills first. He also has to bulk up due to a preference of bigger performers on the main roster.
There is real fear that Vince might take one look at Ricochet and move him to 205 Live. That won't be bad since he's going to carry the cruiserweight division, but he might grow unsatisfied like Neville.
The second worst case scenario for Ricochet is for him to have the career trajectory of Finn Balor, who started super hot, but faded after suffering an injury.
Nevertheless, there is no denying Ricochet's star power and wrestling ability. All-time WWE great, The Rock, even endorsed him as a future WWE Champion.
#4 Aleister Black
Just like Ricochet, Aleister Black has megastar potential. He has all the tools to succeed, including a really good character. Black is a unique superstar whose aura just engulfs an arena, dare I say - like The Undertaker. They both have that demonic persona which does well on the main roster.
However, Black lacks the size of The Undertaker, and he certainly needs to bulk up in order to avoid getting sent to 205 Live.
Black could get lost in the shuffle from time to time like Bray Wyatt, or he could become one of the greatest characters in WWE history. He needs to be the cunning, quiet, and ass-kicking badass superstar he really is.
Having a unique look certainly helps him in the eyes of WWE management, as well as the casual fans. But knowing the WWE Creative these days, they could easily destroy Black when he gets to the main roster.
#3 Lars Sullivan
You might not expect someone like Lars Sullivan on a list like this because of his size. Vince McMahon loves guys like him, as they are behemoth and can squash smaller guys. But despite that fact, it is easy to point out other big men who have failed on the main roster in the past two decades or so.
These superstars include Nathan Jones, Snitsky, Jon Heidenreich, Vladimir Kozlov, Mason Ryan, Ryback, Brodus Clay, and many more.
Sullivan has a throwback look, and he really is a powerful dude. He has to work on his promo skills like Ricochet, but he won't likely be a talker on the main roster. He needs to be booked properly like Braun Strowman who has dominated in the past year and a half. Sullivan could be a threat to The Monster Among Men if he makes his main roster debut next year.
But don't be surprised if Vince becomes disinterested in him, and puts him in a comedy gimmick, just like Kozlov and former world champion, The Great Khali.
#2 Johnny Gargano
Johnny Wrestling is arguably one of the ten best wrestlers in the world today. He recently had a string of matches which stole shows, including five-star classics against Andrade 'Cien' Almas at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia, and against rival Tommaso Ciampa at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.
He recently turned heel, and he could be staying down at NXT for a longer period of time. Gargano is a complete package, with his size the only problem.
He isn't a guy Vince McMahon would love, which could mean he ends up with the cruiserweights. Getting called up to the main roster along with other NXT stars like Ciampa, Adam Cole, and Aleister Black will surely hurt his chances of getting any kind of push.
The 31-year-old superstar's floor could be Sami Zayn's treatment on the main roster, while his ceiling is that of Daniel Bryan's. Like Bryan, Gargano is the ultimate underdog babyface character who wants to win the big one despite his size.
#1 The Undisputed Era
Arguably the greatest stable in NXT history, The Undisputed Era has taken over developmental in the past year. Adam Cole is a former NXT North American Champion, while Kyle O' Reilly, Bobby Fish, and Roderick Strong are the NXT tag team champions under the Freebird Rule.
As far as talent, the four members are not lacking in that department. However, they are undersized just like the four others on this list, but it would not be a surprise if Cole who has superstar potential, gets called up first.
ReDragon could become a main stay in the tag team division, while Strong might do well as a mid-carder or part of the cruiserweight division. They could be all successful on the main roster, but they might not have the same success as a group.
The only hope for The Undisputed Era as well as the four other NXT Superstars on this list, is Triple H getting more control on the main roster. With Vince McMahon focusing on the relaunch of the XFL in 2020, it's only a matter of time before The Game takes over.
