During The Shield's ascent to the top of the company, they were built as heels. They were often used to support The Authority in securing their control over the rest of the talent in the company.

During this time they followed the order of Triple H and Corporate Kane. However, signs began to emerge that The Shield were hesitant to helping The Authority.
It ultimately ended when the group came into the ring and Kane ordered them to bring Jerry the King Lawler to him. It appeared as though they were going to beat down Lawler, but the trio slowly turned to face Kane and beat him up instead. They left him in a heap after their infamous triple powerbomb.
