It all began when Edge cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase against John Cena to become the new WWE Champion at New Year's Revolution 2006. Edge and John Cena then embarked on a long-term rivalry that became iconic over time. Many fans and critics even believe that John Cena is Edge's greatest rival of all time.

The last time both of them had a one-on-one match against each other was during an episode of Monday Night RAW in 2010.
