But WWE and Goldberg surprised everyone when he was given a shot at the Universal Championship against Kevin Owens at Fastlane 2017, eventually going on to win the Universal Championship.

This made him the second oldest wrestler in the WWE to win a WWE championship. He would later lost the title to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33.
