Until the 2020 Royal Rumble event, Edge had been gone from WWE for 9 years. In that time, a lot had changed in the life of the Superstar, including the fact that he was in a relationship with Beth Phoenix. It is not known when the two began to date, but in 2010 Beth divorced her former husband.

Edge and The Glamazon had a daughter together in 2013 named Lyric, and then they had yet another daughter in 2016 named Ruby. The two got married in 2016. For a long time, it seemed that Edge and Beth would never really feature their relationship on-screen.

It was practically impossible, as Edge had retired with a neck injury before it had even been known that the two were dating. Both of them are currently in the Hall of Fame, but it is in their post-Hall of Fame career that they portrayed their relationship on-screen.

Edge returned to WWE in 2020 during the Royal Rumble event. The next night, he was viciously attacked by Randy Orton. This later led to Beth Phoenix coming to the ring to give an update on her husband, when she too, was attacked by the Viper.

Edge came back after this and faced Orton at WrestleMania, taking revenge on him for not only attacking Edge, but also having the nerve to RKO his wife, Beth Phoenix.
