Since Edge's comeback to the WWE, current Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been a thorn in Edge's side. For starters, it was Reigns who eliminated Edge in the 2020 Royal Rumble Match.

A year later, Edge finally got his redemption by winning the 2021 Royal Rumble Match. With the WWE Universe speculating on who Edge would challenge at WrestleMania, Reigns constantly harassed Edge to challenge him for his Universal Championship.

Eventually, Edge made his decision at the Elimination Chamber by delivering Reigns a spear. Edge believed he would face Reigns in a one-on-one match, but Daniel Bryan ended up falling into the mix as well.

The last time the Rated-R Superstar appeared in a WWE ring was when he and Bryan challenged the Tribal Chief for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 37. That night, Edge and Bryan were defeated convincingly by the Universal Champion.

With WWE transitioning back on the road starting July 16, Edge could likely make another comeback. Although there's a chance that there are other plans for Reigns, there could be hope for Edge to face Reigns.

Now that Bryan is out of the picture, it seems fitting for Edge to make his return to SmackDown and challenge Reigns once again for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
