At the outset, let us warn you that this is just a fantasy booking article and little more. If Daniel Bryan has been cleared to wrestle, we have no knowledge of it. However, the events that unfolded at Clash of Champions certainly point to the fact that Bryan could be making an in-ring return. If that happens, the WWE Universe will rejoice as one, chanting 'yes'!
Why else would they be teasing a feud between Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan? One where Bryan physically lay his hands on Shane McMahon, during the co-main event where both men were officiating the proceedings? Why would WWE tease us so?
Let's assume for the sake of this article that Bryan does get cleared before WrestleMania 34 comes around. Who could he be facing on the grandest stage of them all?
We list 5 possible contenders here.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 Shane McMahon
Let's face it. If Daniel Bryan were indeed coming back, we would want him to face a full-time wrestler from the roster instead of Shane McMahon. However, from the looks of it, this is the likeliest scenario. One that looks par for the course right now.
All said and done, this looks to be the likeliest scenario, as of this moment. A clash between the two Authority Figures of SmackDown Live. Two men who were once aligned in vision and who can no longer stand to work with one another.
To be fair to Shane McMahon, he's proved time and again that he can deliver on the big stage. If any wrestler can carry the match, it certainly is Daniel Bryan.
Thankfully, the other four wrestlers in this list are all better contenders for the coveted WrestleMania 34 spot.
#4 Kurt Angle
Not very long ago, WWE released a video where Daniel Bryan sat down with Kurt Angle to discuss what could have been a potential dream match. This meeting was chaired by Renee Young. If you haven't watched the video, do so right away. And then continue reading further!
Kurt Angle is an active wrestler on RAW, having been part of the Shield reunion at TLC, and also leading the RAW Survivor Series team to victory. If Daniel Bryan does get cleared, we do not see any reason why the two men can't take each other to the limit. After all, they are the two General Managers of the two competing WWE brands!
Do remember that Kurt Angle and Daniel Bryan are possibly the two best technical wrestlers in sports entertainment history. A match between them is guaranteed to be a classic, despite the fact that both men may be a tad rusty.
The hype for a match of this magnitude will sell many tickets.
#3 Shinsuke Nakamura
Yes, this is an old school photograph of Daniel Bryan and Shinsuke Nakamura. The two men know each other very well. They roomed together once, and unfortunately, have never faced each other on a massive stage like WWE. We're certain that they would love to do so.
Bryan and Nakamura are both sensational workers. Nakamura also has cause for challenging Bryan, after Bryan executed a fast count, helping Owens and Zayn pick up a victory at Clash of Champions. Imagine the kind of match both men could have.
Many fans want Nakamura to take on Styles at WrestleMania 34. We're certain they wouldn't be opposed to the idea of him facing Bryan.
Neither will they be opposed to the idea of Styles facing Bryan.
#2 AJ Styles
Daniel Bryan was interviewed by Sports Illustrated and asked who he would like to face in WWE, if he was ever cleared. Bryan's answer was extremely forthcoming indeed:
One of my favorite guys to watch at WWE is AJ Styles. So, on the WWE stage, I would like to wrestle AJ Styles, only because I wrestled John Cena before.
And there you have it. One of the greatest of all time makes it clear that he would love to step into the ring with another all-time great. Imagine the calibre of match the two men could potentially have.
In fact, why imagine at all? Check out the absolutely awe-inspiring match that the two men had, in the independents.
#1 The Miz
Ever so often, we see unresolved storylines in WWE. Remember how The Miz absolutely lost it in the face of Daniel Bryan on Talking Smack, last year? The tale never reached its logical conclusion. There's an opportunity right now, for the story to come to a fitting finale.
The Miz has been stealing Bryan's moves, in an attempt to mock him. He has been disrespectful of the legend that is Bryan, garnering heel heat. If Bryan does get cleared, he has a chance for retribution.
The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 34 will be a marquee match. One that doesn't even need a Championship to make it seem relevant.
