EC3 was a major star back in TNA/Impact and has had phenomenal matches in the promotion. Although, when he came to WWE, his overall momentum slowed down quite a bit. He was still a star in the developmental brand but after he was promoted to the main roster, he was turned into a mute piece of chiseled meat, majorly seen flexing at the mirror.

EC3 and Kurt Angle have a storied history from their TNA days. Even if they don't tap on that, EC3 is a much better performer to ignore and giving him the rub from Kurt Angle, gets him back on track.

Eric Young is a veteran in the business with over a decade of experience mostly known for his work in TNA or Impact wrestling. Eric Young arrived on WWE with a group of superstars who created havoc and chaos down in NXT. There were talks of matches against the popular trios like the Shield and the New Day. But, somehow, they weren't able to bring that momentum to the main roster.

Considering his age, Eric Young is in his last legs of his career and there are chances that he gets over merely as an enhancement talent on WWE main roster. Even if that's the role slotted for Young, being the last TV opponent for Kurt Angle is a viable option considering the history they have.
