Matt Hardy and Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) were bitter rivals before they became tag-team champions. It all started back in 2007 when both men were performing on Smackdown. At that time MVP was the U.S Champion

On an episode of SmackDown, Matt defeated MVP in a non-title match. This victory of Hardy over Porter started a feud between them. Hardy received an opportunity at the U.S Title but sadly he lost that bout.

Soon, MVP started bragging that he was better than Hardy at everything. These words led to a basketball match, Arm-wrestling, beer drinking, and a couple of other matches between the two superstars.

Due to all of these events MVP became so confident that he told then-SmackDown general manager Teddy Long in his office that he could win the WWE Tag-Team Championships with the person who walked in next through the door.

Unfortunately for MVP, the person was Hardy. After this Teddy put them together as a tag-team and booked them to face the WWE Tag-Team Champions Deuce 'n Domino.

There both men defeated Deuce 'n Domino to win the championships. but both men lost the titles just after 77 days of winning it. After this, a rivalry was started between Hardy and MVP for the U.S title.
