Edge confirmed that he will be on SmackDown next week

Edge returns to WWE SmackDown next week at a rather critical juncture. Not only is he coming back on the first night of the official WWE Draft, but he is also appearing on the fallout episode of Extreme Rules.

You think you know him? Pardon the pun, but while his motivations may be obvious on the surface, the timing is such that a multitude of things could happen. With that said, here are five possibilities that could unfold with the legendary WWE Hall of Famer.

As always, feel free to chime in with your thoughts and views in the comments. What do you think Edge will be up to next?

#5 Edge confronts Seth Rollins fixing up a match for Crown Jewel

Let's get the obvious one out of the way first. We already know that Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns will clash at Crown Jewel. Another bout may be confirmed between two gladiators for the grand occasion - the rubber match.

Seth Rollins and Edge have clashed twice in the past and both men have one victory over the other. They can settle their differences for the final time in a mega marquee match at Crown Jewel in front of the Saudi Arabian audience. It would only be natural to have some kind of stipulation involved because of the nature of the feud, like a Last Man Standing match.

The two superstars have incredible chemistry and whatever manner of match it is, it is likely to be absolutely extraordinary. The question is, after the brutal beatdown, whether The Rated-R Superstar will appear at 100% or in a cast, for Rollins to lay another beating on him? This week's episode of SmackDown is not one we can afford to miss.

#4 Edge teams up with his fellow Canadian Kevin Owens

Edge and Kevin Owens? Well, Owens certainly seemed outmatched against Happy Corbin and Riddick Moss on WWE SmackDown, and it is obvious that he could use some backup.

This is why Edge and Kevin Owens could team up and in time, this coalition could move onto gold and glory. If The Usos retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championships at Extreme Rules, they'll want a major team to contest with in the coming months. Guess who could fit the bill? Edge and Kevin Owens could!

#3 RAW star AJ Styles confronts the WWE Hall of Famer next week

And then there's the draft. There are only so many dream matches left before The Rated-R Superstar calls it a day and one has to believe that Vince McMahon will want to book each one of them in quick succession.

AJ Styles is no spring chicken himself and flanked by the mighty Omos, he may just stride down to confront Edge. Imagine the dream encounter that will ensue between these two living legends.

#2 Bobby Lashley and Edge have a major staredown

Edge and Bobby Lashley are two gentlemen who are both adept at delivering vicious spears to their opponents. Next week on SmackDown, Lashley, who is no longer in the title picture, could show up to interrupt the Hall of Fame as he is cutting his in-ring promo.

This could announce his big arrival into the SmackDown brand. Edge and Bobby Lashley could then embark on a feud that stretches out for many months on end.

#1 Sami Zayn attacks Edge from behind to set up a major match

Ultimately, The Rated-R Superstar might want to do the right thing and put over younger talent to take his place. It is very likely that while he's doing his entrance, Sami Zayn could attack him from behind to set up a match at a later date.

Sure, Zayn seems to be embroiled in a program with Dominik Mysterio, but this may be his way of teaching the young man how to make an impression. This may be how Dominik eventually turns heel.
