Royal Rumble is one of the most awaited PPV events for wrestling fans all across the globe as the road to WrestleMania begins here. The 2019 Royal Rumble was a roller coaster ride that kept the fans on the edge of their seats throughout.
Not only was the show full of surprises and unpredictability but moving ahead it left us with hints of what's in store for the fans in the near future. Following are the 5 possible matches that could take place on the grandest stage of them all following the events of the Royal Rumble.
#4 Drew Mcintyre vs Dolph Ziggler
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
This is a classic 'friends turned enemies' story. At one point in time, Dolph and Drew destroyed the WWE together. The show-off brought the Scottish psychopath in his corner to destroy Seth Rollins and steal his championship title. Not only did they succeed in doing so, but the duo also proclaims to be the reason behind the dismantling of the Shield.
It was only a matter of time before Drew realised he didn't need Dolph to be in the main event and he wasted no time in shedding the extra weight, stepping over Ziggler to get in the main event. He paid dearly for that offence though, as Dolph eventually cost Drew the Royal Rumble match.
From the looks of it, the story between these two is far from over and WrestleMania will be the perfect occasion for them to slug it out. Not only would this provide a credible match for both superstars, but this could also be a good opportunity for Dolph to capitalise and turn face.
Ziggler has long been battling obscurity as a heel with no direction and this feud could be the turning point he needs to resurface into relevance.
#3 Asuka Vs Charlotte Flair
Asuka won the Royal Rumble last year but lost to Charlotte Flair on the grandest stage of them all. She didn't just lose the match but also her undefeated streak and it took her a while to get back in the spotlight.
However, she did prevail and ended up as the Smackdown Women's Champion at the TLC pay per view with a little help from the Raw women's champion Ronda Rousey.
Asuka walked in at the 2019 Royal Rumble as champion, solidifying her reign by defeating the hottest thing in sports entertainment today, Becky Lynch with a clean victory. It was enough to shrug off the label of a paper champion and established that she is, indeed, a worthy champion.
As great as this victory was, losing her undefeated streak to Charlotte Flair must still rankle Asuka. It out would be fitting to see these to go one on one again for the title this year at WrestleMania.
This could be a redemption story for Asuka to prove who is the better woman or Charlotte can once again prove that there is nobody better than the queen, not even the Empress. Whatever the equation may be, Asuka Vs Charlotte will make one heck of a match.
#2 Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins vs. Braun Strowman
Seth 'Freakin' Rollins has done it. The man has punched his ticket to main event WrestleMania, defeating 29 other superstars to win the men's Royal Rumble.
Although no announcements have been made so far, it is most likely that he will pick the Universal champion Brock Lesnar as his choice opponent at WrestleMania. Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar is in itself a match big enough for WrestleMania.
The two share a gruelling past and it was Brock who was the victim of the heist of the century when Seth Rollins cashed in his money in the bank contract at WrestleMania 31. Now once again, Seth looks ready to take the championship away from the beast but things might not be as simple this time around as there is a monster waiting around the corner.
Braun Strowman has his eyes set on the Universal championship and has decimated the beast incarnate on several occasions yet, for one reason or the other, has failed to capture the title. Royal Rumble 2019 was supposed to be his shot at the title as Braun was supposed to face Brock Lesnar for the universal championship.
This would have been the case if it wasn't for Baron Corbin and it is only a matter of time till Strowman figures out a way to get back in the title picture. It is only fitting to assume that the Universal Championship match at WrestleMania might turn into an explosive triple threat match between the man, the monster and the Beast.
And only time will tell if 'The Architect' can pull off another heist.
#1 Becky Lynch Vs Ronda Rousy
There is no better main event for WrestleMania 35. The man Becky Lynch may be going one on one with the Raw women's champion and former UFC Hall of Famer Rowdy Ronda Rousey.
This is already a blockbuster in the making and a true redemption story for the man Becky Lynch. This was the match fans were supposed to get at the Survivor Series pay per view and it was the champion vs champion match everyone was looking forward to.
Unfortunately, Becky suffered an injury at the hands of the face breaker Nia Jax while invading Raw. The fans were robbed of the match they were expecting to see and Charlotte Flair replaced Becky as the Smackdown's representative at survivor series.
Things turned worse for the man as Ronda took her revenge by costing Becky her championship at the TLC pay per view. Not only did Becky lose her championship but she also failed to reclaim her throne, failing to beat Asuka for the Smackdown women's championship at the Royal Rumble pay per view.
The Man would not quit though and found a way to weasel into the Women's Royal Rumble in place of the injured Lana. Becky punched her ticket to WrestleMania by eliminating the woman who broke her face and then beating her longtime rival Charlotte Flair.
It will truly be a fairy tale for Becky and her fans if she goes on to WrestleMania and takes Ronda Rousey's title as a settlement for the loss of her own. This truly has the potential to be the first ever women's match to main event WrestleMania and it surely has the star power to pull it off.
