4. NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes
In NXT, Carmelo Hayes has been on a fast track to the top of the card since debuting in 2021.
When WWE merged the Cruiserweight and North American Championships, he was selected as the wrestler to carry that banner.

Since then, he's been strongly featured on weekly TV shows and TakeOver specials. Given this prominence, he would be a logical choice to be one of Gunther's first opponents.
In constructing this feud, there are a couple of factors to consider. First, both are at their best when working as heels. They could undoubtedly continue as such, but then there's no clear babyface for the fans to cheer.
The creative team could decide to turn one of them babyface, but it remains to be seen if either one could play that role well. Time will tell the path they choose to take.
3. Grayson Waller of NXT 2.0
This is an exciting possibility, but one that comes with several risks. First, Gunther would automatically become a babyface, which, as noted above, is unchartered territory for him.
Second, the outcome of the feud would have to be planned out delicately so that neither's stock is overly damaged.
Waller, for example, is coming off of a loss to AJ Styles. He should be positioned to regain his heat and win his next several matches.
It's not likely the creative team would match him against Gunther immediately. But it is something to consider down the road.
