WWE Payback is right around the corner, and as is always the case, the first pay per view following WrestleMania has a lot of buzz going into it. There’s a whole host of matches that have the potential to steal the show, and we already kind of feel sorry for SmackDown Live because Backlash is starting to look like a big old step down.
Although with that in mind, we still do believe that there is room for improvement which may sound a little bit odd considering that nothing has even happened yet. As we all know, returns make the heart grow fonder within the world of professional wrestling, and because of that, we’ve decided to think up a few possibilities heading into Sunday.
Now before we get an abundance of hate mail, we aren’t suggesting that these are definitely going to happen – in fact, quite the opposite, they may be total shots in the dark. But when you think about it, isn’t that the fun of this industry we all love so much? After all, you just never know who’s going to show up.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
So with all of that being said, here are five possible returns that can happen at Payback.
#1 Bo Dallas
Bolieve everyone because Bo Dallas is coming back to turn The Wyatt Family completely on its head. In a recent interview, Bray Wyatt said he’s 100% convinced that his real life brother Bo will one day join the Family, and there’s no time like the present with Bray once again floundering following his loss to Randy Orton at WrestleMania.
Obviously, many fans are of the belief that Randy will once again prove himself to be the master at Payback, but considering it’s supposed to be a non-title bout, it makes all the sense in the world for Bo to help Bray win. Plus, it helps Wyatt look like even more of a force to be reckoned with on Monday Night Raw.
Here comes the pain.
#2 Brock Lesnar
This may seem like a bit of a cop out since Lesnar appeared on Raw only a few weeks ago, but nobody is going to be expecting him to show up at Payback. The way we’d book it is by having Strowman defeat Roman Reigns (because if you think Roman should win here, we can’t be friends) before having Brock come out to have a staredown with the Monster Among Men.
It would clearly set up their bout for the next Raw pay per view, and it could be used as a way for Roman to finally cement his heel turn. Just picture it – Braun defeats Brock to win the Universal Championship courtesy of Reigns costing Lesnar the match to set up a sequel to their WM31 bout at SummerSlam. Magical.
It's time to play the game.
#3 Triple H
Triple H is a bad ass, and nobody is going to deny that, but we can’t say that we’re overly keen on the idea of him returning here. Still, given the nature of WWE’s booking, it makes all the sense in the world for it to happen as The Game just needs to get one up on The Architect after losing to him in Orlando.

Plus, in terms of the Rollins-Joe match, they’ve kind of booked themselves into a corner and HHH is one of the realistic solutions to get them out of their situation. After all, you can’t really have Joe lose as they’re still trying to build up his credibility; meanwhile, Rollins could really use another victory to keep his momentum going.
Let's light it up.
#4 AJ Lee
As we all know, AJ Lee hasn’t been seen in the WWE for two years now, and she has instead chosen to walk away from the business alongside her husband, CM Punk. She’s remained pretty quiet for the most part, but as of late, she’s come out of the shadows in order to conduct a series of interviews related to her new book Crazy Is My Superpower.
In one of the interviews, AJ stated that she does still miss wrestling, which could open the door for her to interfere in the Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss match. The story would make all the sense in the world, considering that AJ and Bayley had a storyline going a few years back, although this is admittedly the least likely of all five options.
Rusev machka.
#5 Rusev
The Bulgarian Brute is on his way back to full fitness, with his recent promo on SmackDown Live indicating that his sights are set on the WWE Championship. However, this could all prove to be a diversion, and he could end up switching right back to the red brand after not being granted his desired title match.
It would seem a bit odd considering he’s only just been transferred over from Raw, but when has logic ever been a major roadblock for the company? Rusev still has unfinished business on Raw but to be honest, he could simply pop up as a SmackDown Live superstar because God knows we don’t have enough of them competing on this card.
