5 potential feuds for Sami Zayn

Zayn’s promising career has stumbled as of late

What happened to Sami Zayn?

After his big victory over long-term rival Kevin Owens at this year’s Battleground pay-per-view, in a match of the year candidate, it looked as if Sami had officially arrived on the main roster and big things lay ahead for him.

However, since then Zayn has faded into relative obscurity and it appears the WWE has creative struggles with planning interesting storylines, for the former El Generico outside of a feud with Kevin Owens.

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

This would be a huge missed opportunity if WWE fails to rectify this soon. Zayn is one of the most popular performers they have on the entire roster, and he is certainly worth some investment from the powers that be.

This article will look at 5 possible future paths and potential feuds for Sami Zayn, starting with…

#1 Tag Team with Neville

Could the former foes work as a team?

This seems the most likely path for Zayn currently considering what happened on this week’s Raw and while I don’t believe this is the way to go with either men long term, it gives them both some exposure which they have desperately needed recently.

I could see Zayn & Neville remaining as a team for the next month or so, and wouldn’t be surprised if they end up being one of Raw’s top five tag teams in the 10-on-10 inter-promotional match, that looks set for the upcoming Survivor Series pay-per-view.

Let’s be honest, that appears to be the only way either of them have a chance at getting on that card currently.

However, I wouldn’t have their partnership continue much longer after Survivor Series and would love to see a friendly, yet competitive feud between the former NXT Champions.

#2 Braun Strowman

Strowman wants a challenge

Or, could Sami Zayn be the man to test Braun Strowman?

Now I know people probably won’t want to see this as it would seem likely that Zayn would come out on the losing end of this feud. But, if Zayn was to get a shock victory and become the first man to defeat Strowman, it would benefit both men long term.

Sure Strowman would inevitably win a rematch and go on to face bigger competition, but if done correctly, the original victory for Sami would help him going forward and being the first man to defeat Strowman would be a nice feather in his cap.

#3 Chris Jericho

Does this feud have more in the locker?

This would be the most unlikely feud if rumours are to be believed that Jericho will be leaving WWE soon. However, the short feud that the two men had heading into Clash of Champions, barely scratched the surface on what these two men could have done in a proper program.

The downside of this feud would be if they were to focus again on the Kevin Owens factor, as I think that is hurting Zayn now and he needs to show what he can do outside of that ‘former best friends’ story.

If Zayn and Jericho worked a program that didn’t involve any mention of the current Universal Champion, Kevin Owens, then it could be special. Unfortunately, it appears that ship has sailed and Jericho is expected to be departing the WWE in the near future.

#4 Cruiserweight Division

The Cruiserweight Division needs some legitimate star power

At a billed weight of 205 lbs, Sami Zayn qualifies as a cruiserweight and could, in theory, get involved in Raw’s newly re-established Cruiserweight Division. Feuds with the likes of TJ Perkins and Brian Kendrick could lead to some great matches and would give the division some legitimate star power.

However, depending on how this was booked, it could either elevate the entire Cruiserweight Division or drag down Sami Zayn’s value to the company.

#5 Roman Reigns

The Guy vs The Underdog?

A feud between Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns over the United States Championship has the potential to be a memorable one, this would depend on how WWE wants Reigns to be booked. If they want him as a pure babyface then he would only feud with bonafide heels, making this program a no-go.

However, if they book Reigns as a tweener, a feud with Sami would be great and would see two men the fans are emotionally invested in, compete over the United States Title, which would help the prestige of the belt.

What do you think WWE should do with Sami Zayn next, or are you happy with how ‘The underdog from the underground’ is being booked currently?
