Ever since he stepped foot inside the squared circle, AJ Styles has won over the hardcore and casual wrestling fans alike.
Next year will mark Styles' 20th year as a professional wrestler since debuting in 1998 for National Championship wrestling in Georgia. The 40-year-old has achieved virtually all that's there to achieve in the World of professional wrestling and has a guaranteed a Hall of Fame spot somewhere down the line.
Having conquered the independent scene across the globe, he came to WWE in January last year. Currently, AJ Styles is the holder of the WWE Title, his second WWE World Title reign within his first two years in the company.
Many people are wondering what WWE have planned for the 'Phenomenal One' at the biggest event in the wrestling calendar. Let's take a look at some potential opponents that could be booked to face the current WWE Champion.
#5 Finn Balor
The two former members of the Bullet Club went head to head in singles competition for the first time ever at the WWE TLC Pay Per View last October. However, this was not the original plan.
Balor was meant to face Bray Wyatt who he was feuding with at the time, but an injury to "The Eater of Worlds" meant that WWE had to find a replacement for Balor and in stepped AJ Styles.
Although the match was one of the best of the night, fans still wish they had seen this confrontation after a larger build up, worthy of a match of this magnitude. Even though both competitors are on different shows, WWE might wish to renew this contest for a bigger stage. Maybe, WWE will have AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor at the grandest stage of them
#4 John Cena
"The Franchise Player" won his 16th WWE World Title after defeating AJ Styles at the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view at the start of this year. Since then, after losing the championship at the following pay-per-view and then taking a loss against Roman Reigns at No Mercy, Cena hasn't been seen much on WWE television.
However, with the Wrestlemania 34 season is upon us and the "Face that runs the Place" potentially looking to secure a record 17th World Title reign, the showdown between AJ Styles and John Cena could be upon us. After all, AJ Styles is the current WWE World champion and the two men did have one of the best feuds in the company last year.
#3 Kevin Owens
Whilst Kevin Owens is maintaining his feud with Shane McMahon it doesn't seem likely that Owens will get a shot at the WWE Championship on the grandest stage of them all. And with rumours of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn potentially going to Monday night RAW this possibility seems even more doubtful.
However, no matter which show is 'the Kevin Owens show' come April 2018, there's no doubt he should be back in the World title picture. He has given us some of the best moments of 2017 with his exceptional promos and in-ring performances. Don't be shocked to see the "Prize Fighter" reclaim the top prize in the industry, reigniting one of his best rivalries of 2017 in AJ Styles.
#2 Kenny Omega
This choice is probably the least likely to actually happen at Wrestlemania 34, however, wouldn't it be phenomenal to see these two Bullet Club legends go at it?
Kenny Omega had possibly the best match in wrestling history against Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 11 back in January this year. People were anticipating a possible jump over to the WWE before the Royal Rumble, believing Omega to be the surprise number 30 entrant. With Omega now taking on WWE legend Chris Jericho at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in January 2018, could this be an actual possibility this time around?
And if by some miracle WWE fans get this dream scenario, could it be rounded off with a match of the millennium having Kenny Omega square off against AJ Styles?
#1 Shinsuke Nakamura
The first in the list has to be "The King of Strong Style" Shinsuke Nakamura. The fans have been eager to see these two square off once again in the centre of the ring. WWE has teased this future dream match at times throughout this year, but can they finally get it right and book this showdown for the biggest event in the wrestling calendar?
Styles and Nakamura are no strangers to one another, having not only crossed paths back in NJPW but also delivering one of the best matches in wrestling history at Wrestle Kingdom 10. Fans across the world would love to see a repeat of this contest, surely WWE can't miss out on this opportunity?
AJ Styles is the current WWE Champion whereas Shinsuke Nakamura still chasing biggest prize in sports entertainment. Could we see the former NXT Champion win the Royal Rumble to become the Phenomenal One's challenger on the biggest night of them all? I hope so, just like millions of fans across the World.
