Every year, the Raw and Smackdown Live after WrestleMania nearly always consist of a call-up from the developmental brand NXT. Last year, we saw call-ups such as The Revival, Tye Dillinger and Shinsuke Nakamara, among others. This adds an unpredictable atmosphere to the shows after WrestleMania; these shows are usually the most watched shows of the year for WWE. Due to the hot nature of NXT and how tremendous the brand's WWE Network specials are, the brand has gathered a great deal of momentum for itself. This usually carries over to the superstars first night on the main roster creating an electric atmosphere. We look at the main five potential call-ups from NXT following this year's WrestleMania.
5 - Authors Of Pain
The Authors of Pain, managed by WWE Hall Of Famer Paul Ellering, made their NXT debuts in June 2016 attacking American Alpha after their match at NXT Takeover: The End. Destroying every team that got in their way one by one, Authors Of Pain were quickly skyrocketing through the rankings of the NXT tag team division. They captured the NXT Tag Team Championships on their first attempt in November of the same year just five months after their debut by defeating DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa). They held the NXT Tag Team Championships for nine months before losing it to Sanity (Alexander Wolfe and Eric Young) in what marked Authors of Pain's first loss in NXT. Competing in The Wargames Match alongside Roderick Strong against Sanity and The Undisputed Era, there's not really much left for this team to do in NXT. After Wrestlemania would be the perfect time to call this team up to the repetitive Raw tag team division and give it the much needed shot of adrenaline it needs.
#4 - The Iconic Duo (Peyton Royce and Billie Kay)
In April 2015, WWE announced a new class of talent to report to the performance center. Among those names were two that I'd say have been some of the most improved women on the NXT roster. Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, although they didn't align with each other until October 2016, were destined for each other. Before meeting up with each other, these two were consistently putting over and feuding with new female talent. While doing that, both these girls were busting their behinds off to become the best they could be in hopes that one day that may receive an opportunity to be on top. Fast forward to October 2016, and the 'Iconic Duo' was born.
Since then, these two have killed every opportunity given to them and have gotten the attention of the fans. Since they've worked with and feuded with pretty much every woman on the roster, there's nothing left for them to do in NXT. Being great at capturing consistent heat for their mean girls presentation, these two would be a great addition to the Smackdown women's roster that lacks depth in the lower card portion of the division.
#3 - The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Kyle O'reilly and Bobby Fish)
The Undisputed Era debuted in a big way over the summer at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III, attacking the newly crowned NXT Champion Drew McIntyre. Since debuting, The Undisputed Era has become a huge part of NXT programming, competing in the first ever WarGames match in NXT history. Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish also captured the NXT Tag Team Championships from Sanity. Feuding with the likes of Aleister Black, Drew Galloway and Sanity, they have put on great matches week in and week out. With Adam Cole making a surprise Royal Rumble debut this year, hopefully we could be on the horizon of seeing the Undisputed era on the main roster. With an NWO vibe to them, could we really rule out an invasion on both brands from the faction?
#2 - Ricochet
Although Ricochet hasn't officially debuted for NXT yet, there's no way I could leave this man out. With rumors of Triple H being in charge of 205 Live from now on, there's a very real possibility that we could see a 205 Live call-up the night after WrestleMania. Ricochet is one of the best high flying wrestlers in the world who can do incredible things in the squared circle. If allowed to, Ricochet could amaze the crowd of Raw and 205 Live on a weekly basis. If Triple H is serious about rebuilding 205 Live to gather more viewers, this could also be the man to build the cruiserweight division due to his high flying abilities. With his 630 splash having the ability to wow just about everybody, and 205 Live having some of the best workers in the entire company, the fans could be in for a serious treat.
#1 - Drew McIntyre
Drew McIntyre is the best example of how hard work can pay off. Once called 'The Chosen One' by Vince McMahon himself, McIntyre was released from WWE in 2014. McIntyre decided to hone his skills on the independent scene with promotions such as ICW, WCPW, Impact Wrestling and Evolve. Within weeks of his independent wrestling run, you could tell this man was hungry and out to show the world that he was one of the best.
Returning to NXT in April 2017, he instantly showed why he was brought back after three years by defeating Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III just four months after his NXT debut. Losing the championship in November to Andre Cien Almas at NXT Takeover: War Games, McIntyre revealed he tore his bicep towards the end of the match and would require surgery. Estimated to return back in May, if McIntyre could be healthy enough in time, he could be a major addition to the show he debuted on years ago - Smackdown Live - and add another main event level calibre superstar to the roster.
