CM Punk was a SmackDown star during his early days
During the early stages of his WWE career, CM Punk had established himself as one of the most reputed Superstars on the blue brand. Punk's rivalries with the likes of The Undertaker, Rey Mysterio, and Jeff Hardy are some of the most memorable feuds of his career and are definitely worth looking back on.

The Straight Edge Society was also part of the SmackDown roster and during their short span, the group definitely made a lot of noise, courtesy of some incredible work from CM Punk.
The faction consisted of Punk, Serena Deeb, Luke Gallows, and Joey Mercury, and reflecting on the group's run, it goes on to show how important Punk was to the blue brand at one stage.

If CM Punk ever decides to make his return to WWE, then the current SmackDown is tailor-made for him. The blue brand currently consists of the likes of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Cesaro, who are leading the brand from the front.
Whereas the return of a veteran like Edge has also helped in adding star power to the SmackDown roster. Throwing CM Punk into the mix would guarantee some incredible storylines, given the consistency SmackDown has followed lately in terms of creativity.
