5 Reasons why Paul Heyman’s WWE career is likely not over

#2. WWE needs Heyman to further the Roman Reigns storyline

When Roman Reigns returned at WWE SummerSlam 2020, he attacked The Fiend and Braun Strowman after their Universal Championship match. By the time he appeared on screen again at SmackDown, Reigns had a new advocate in Paul Heyman. WWE put Heyman in his corner to clearly establish him as the company’s top heel. It was the perfect pairing to showcase Reigns’ new character.

As Reigns and The Bloodline took shape with his cousins, The Usos, Heyman was in the background. Still, the on-screen personality’s influence has been all over the storyline throughout, leading up to The Tribal Chief’s latest feud with Lesnar. Heyman’s allegiance has been questioned, which has only added to the story. Now, with Lesnar and Reigns set to do battle on January 1st, the former ECW owner is again at the center of the feud.

It is no secret that Vince McMahon would eventually like Reigns to return as the company’s top babyface. For him to turn face, who better to get that message over than Heyman?

It would stand to reason that Heyman has something up his sleeve that should help the story going forward. His potential involvement at Day 1 will undoubtedly push the Roman Reigns saga further along.

#1. WWE needs Heyman to promote WrestleMania’s main event

WWE’s WrestleMania main event is still not finalized, although it does seem likely that Lesnar vs. Reigns will be the matchup. While McMahon would love to have Reigns vs. The Rock as the main event, that bout seems unlikely given the latter’s availability. The outcome of the Universal Championship clash at Day 1 will go a long way in deciding the direction of a potential WrestleMania rematch.

First and foremost, the writing team has to sell the WWE Universe on the idea of a third bout in six months between Lesnar and Reigns as the main event. Heyman is the perfect storyteller to give the matchup the freshness it needs.

Paul Heyman is now the central figure in this Lesnar vs. Reigns feud. The direction he takes will dictate how the WWE Universe likely feels about each superstar.

With all this at stake, it is unimaginable that Heyman walks away now without helping to further this story along. He will likely be at WrestleMania if the storyline proceeds as rumored, but we will have to wait and see which corner he is in.
