WWE RAW Superstars Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have demonstrated tension from within The New Day for months, causing some fans and wrestling journalists to speculate about an eventual break-up of the iconic tag team. Xavier is on a crusade, looking to up his game and return to championship glory. Perhaps his partner, Kofi, should join him rather than have a conflict with the host of UpUpDownDown.
Woods and Kingston are scheduled to wrestle the War Raiders as well as Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee of the Latino World Order for a shot at the WWE World Tag Team Championship. If they win the Triple Threat tag team match in the upcoming October 28th episode of WWE RAW, The New Day will become the number one contender for Finn Balor and JD McDonagh's title.
The New Day held 12 tag team title reigns together in WWE. However, the stable has been in a title drought for over a year. The last championship the faction held was the NXT Tag Team Title, which the duo lost to Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang) in a Fatal Four-Way Match at Vengeance Day 2023.
Without further ado, let's look at five reasons why the leader of KofiMania should join the crusade of the 2021 King of the Ring winner:
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods both could benefit from a New Day heel turn on WWE Monday Night RAW
Kofi and Woods have played babyfaces for almost a decade in WWE. However, before turning face in early 2016, The New Day had a fantastic run as heels. The trash-talking team won over the crowd with their attention-grabbing charisma and humorous antics, developing into one of the most beloved groups in WWE history.
Some have suggested that The New Day peaked as villains and demonstrated their best work as heels. Considering it's been nearly a decade since they last turned heel, a second turn would arguably be a breath of fresh air for Kofi and Xavier. Their initial turn to the dark side would lead to the longest reign in the history of the World Tag Team Championship. Perhaps if they became villains again, Kingston and Woods could end their title drought.
Woods has teased fully turning heel, especially relating to his interactions with Rey Mysterio.
If WWE finally does pull the trigger on Xavier becoming a full-fledged heel, perhaps Kofi should join him in making The New Day a devious force hellbent on securing championship gold.
#4. Xavier Woods has his eyes set on the World Tag Team Championship
Woods is laser-focused on once again capturing tag team gold in WWE. He wants himself and his partner to be 100% healthy in time for their number one contenders match against the War Raiders and the Latino World Order, which is presumably why Woods prevented Kofi Kingston from intervening when The Final Testament and The Miz attacked R-Truth during last week's episode of the red brand.
Kofi should look out for the best interest of himself and The New Day, which would be capturing gold and not getting involved in beefs that don't necessarily concern them. One way of getting on the same page as his partner would be to develop the laser focus that Xavier has for the World Tag Team Title, not allowing himself to be distracted by battles that don't involve championship gold.
#3. Kofi should follow The New Day's quarterback
During a backstage segment in the September 23, 2024, episode of WWE RAW, Kofi Kingston declared that Xavier Woods would be the quarterback of The New Day over the next few weeks. Kofi announced that Xavier would call the shots, acting as a leader and decision-maker.
Kofi ought to follow the directions of his quarterback, who appears hellbent on capturing tag team gold. Xavier's leadership and Kingston's cooperation can lead to the tandem becoming highly successful once again.
With Woods as QB, The New Day is on an upward trajectory, scheduled to fight for the number one contender spot in WWE RAW's tag team division. The New Day appears to be on a winning path with Woods taking the charge as the team's quarterback.
#2. Kingston and Woods can get over their title drought together
The New Day last held championship gold at NXT Vengeance Day, a PLE that aired on February 4, 2023. They won the NXT Tag Team Title by defeating Pretty Deadly at the NXT Deadline event on December 10, 2022, and ultimately dropped the gold to Gallus less than two months later.
The last time Woods and Kofi held gold on the main roster was at Night One of WrestleMania 37 before they lost the RAW Tag Team Title to AJ Styles and Omos. Their last championship win on the main roster was on the March 15, 2021, edition of RAW when they defeated the erstwhile Hurt Business' Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander for the red brand's tag straps. They'd hold onto the title for 26 days before dropping the championship to Styles and The Nigerian Giant at The Showcase of The Immortals on April 10, 2021.
By joining Woods on his crusade for gold and glory, Kofi could potentially end his title drought alongside his New Day brethren.
#1. Xavier Woods' desire to win gold
Woods has a major chip on his shoulder for his lack of championship success in the singles division, especially compared to Rey Mysterio and his partner Kofi Kingston, both of whom are former world champions in the singles division. His frustrations and his apparent resentful envy of his close peers seem to have lit a fire under Woods, leading to a change in attitude and a renewed focus on championship glory.
Xavier Woods appears to be greatly focused on capturing gold. The 38-year-old is so deadset on winning that he's willing to stand back and allow R-Truth to be decimated by The Final Testament rather than help him and risk not being 100% in time for the number one contenders match. If Kofi wants The New Day to end its championship drought, he ought to join the crusade of his partner, who's hellbent on victory.
R-Truth's distraction assisted The New Day in their win over the Authors of Pain (AOP) last Monday. However, Woods was so focused on staying healthy enough to win their upcoming Triple Threat tag team match that he held Kingston back from helping Truth, who was being attacked. "We have to win the title," said Woods to Kofi.
