When Brock Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012, fans went bananas and couldn't believe that The Beast had actually come back. The excitement didn't last long though. Lesnar's mainstream popularity earned him possibly the most perk-filled contract ever. This resulted in him being absent from Monday Night Raw for weeks, and sometimes months on end. The Universal Title turned into an afterthought and the Intercontinental Title somehow became the major belt in fans' eyes.

This was another reason why Rollins received that thunderous pop on the night after WrestleMania 34. The fan-favorite wrestler was holding the belt that the fans had deemed the top title on Raw. Rollins finally did what the likes of Reigns and Goldberg couldn't do. He defeated Lesnar at 'Mania and became the Universal Champion, ending Brock Lesnar's "reign of terror", a moniker given to him by the fans who had grown tired of his rare appearances on Raw.
