Reigns relinquished the title
At the end of the day, WWE is a business that needs a credible top guy, who would be there every single week and help sell tickets. Last year, Roman Reigns came out on an episode of Monday Night Raw and announced that his leukemia had returned. He relinquished the Universal title and left the company for an undetermined period of time.

This was a reality check for WWE, who had spent the last three years building up Reigns as the single biggest Superstar on the roster. It made the company realize that it should never put all of its eggs in one basket.
It could be one of the reasons why Rollins is now the face of RAW and Reigns slowly making his way back to the title picture in SmackDown Live.

#3 Seth Rollins is capable of delivering quality matches on a consistent basis
Rollins in action
Although Reigns is capable of pulling off good matches, Seth Rollins is simply way better than him when it comes to in-ring performances, plus mic work. One of the biggest reasons fans got behind Rollins was the fact that he was entertaining on the stick and was delivering quality matches one after the other on a weekly basis.
Reigns' matches against Triple H, The Undertaker, and Brock Lesnar at three consecutive WrestleMania events left a lot to be desired, in terms of quality. Rollins is an excellent choice to carry the helm as he is capable of backing up his talks and leaving the fans in awe with his performances.

Given the opportunity to script WWE’s next big storyline, Abhilash would treat fans to the second installment of The Bloodline Civil War. He would book Roman Reigns to re-form The Bloodline with The Usos and Sami Zayn upon his comeback. The angle would see The Tribal Chief-led group go head-to-head with The Rock, Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, and Jacob Fatu in a blockbuster family feud.
