This Monday on Raw, Bray Wyatt made his long-awaited return in front of a live WWE audience in horrifying fashion. Following a flickering of the lights, he made his way as the Fiend and hit Finn Balor with a Sister Abigail. This was Wyatt's first proper appearance on WWE TV in eleven months. It looks like we will be getting the Fiend against Balor at SummerSlam, in a reverse rematch from two years ago.
Back then, the Demon dispatched off Wyatt with relative ease. This time, the returning conqueror should demolish Balor even more easily. It makes a lot of sense, and WWE would be smart to book it. The Fiend defeating the Demon would have made for an exciting story, but it looks like we will be getting the normal Finn Balor only. He reactions that the Firefly Funhouse has been getting certainly warrants it.
Here are five reasons why Bray Wyatt's Fiend must squash Finn Balor at SummerSlam 2019.
#5 It would instantly kill Bray Wyatt's recurring losing pattern
The main reason why Bray Wyatt's previous character became stale and ineffective was that lost every big match he was in. For every feud, he would cut great promos and build up some real hype for his match, whether it would be against John Cena, The Undertaker, Randy Orton or anyone else. It always ended disappointingly, with the Eater of Worlds lying flat in the middle of the ring.
WWE failed to pull the trigger on Wyatt multiple times. Even when he won the WWE Championship, he was fed to Orton. WWE must not make that mistake with the former cult leader this time. Wins and losses do matter. Wyatt should be booked strongly throughout the rest of the year at the very least and him going over Balor at SummerSlam in quick fashion would send the right message to the fans, that the new Bray Wyatt is going to win important wrestling matches.
#4 Other matches would get more time
For the past four years, SummerSlam has had ten matches on the main card. This means that some matches would have to be compromised in length to offer more time to others. Due to that, we saw three different squash matches at last year's show. Expect at least one such match at this year's show. WWE should strongly consider making that match the one between Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor.
Aside from the fact that it would produce a monumental shock on the show, Wyatt squashing Balor would allow other matches a few extra minutes that could make them classics. Matches like Bayley vs Ember Moon and Shinsuke Nakamura vs Ali, among other possible matches, would certainly benefit from a little extra time. After all, we do need the perfect balance of good wrestling and shocking moments on any show.
#3 It creates more scope for a future Fiend vs Demon match
With both Bray Wyatt and Finn Balor trading SummerSlam wins as their unbeatable alter-egos, it would only make sense for the both of them to have a spooky blowoff at some point in the future. And that is money. The two could have said match at WrestleMania 36 or, possibly, next year's SummerSlam. Honestly, the Demon character is not exactly working as well as it used to and it could do with some changes.
This could have been the time for the Demon to be defeated on the main roster, but it is understandable why WWE would not want to do that right now. However, they really should consider having a do-over for Balor's face painted alter-ego. His use of the character over the past year has not been the most thrilling, using it against Bobby Lashley and Andrade, while he faced Brock Lesnar without the paint. That being said, Bray Wyatt's Fiend should come out dominant over anybody, including normal Balor right now, as well as Demon Balor in the future.
#2 Finn Balor is taking some time off
It has been reported that Finn Balor will be taking some time off from WWE, following SummerSlam. He will be gone for a couple of months, which is why squashing him makes complete sense. Bray Wyatt could overwhelmingly destroy him and write him off programming, leading into Balor's absence. Following that, he would be instantly be taken seriously if he returns as a heel and joins up with his buddies over on Raw.
There is a readymade story for his return as well, as he joins the Club under the leadership of AJ Styles. This would then lead to a power struggle between the pair of former Bullet Club leaders, as the Irishman goes on a road to redemption from being squashed all the way to taking control of what was his stable all along. WWE should use pre-planned absences to really benefit other performers who will be featured in the coming weeks, in as big a way as possible.
#1 It would put Wyatt over huge
The main reason why Bray Wyatt should utterly destroy Finn Balor at SummerSlam is merely the simplest. It would make him an instant threat. A shockingly quick victory for Wyatt would send shockwaves across the WWE universe, giving them the message that the Eater of Worlds is a big-time player and he is ready to eat through the main event of Raw. The era of 50-50 booking should be over, it is time to go completely behind a guy and run with him.
The fact that he turned general fan apathy into intrigue, into further interest and investment shows just how talented Bray Wyatt is. He has earned the chance to take the main event ball and run with it. There is massive potential in the Fiend and this is a huge opportunity for WWE to create their next mega-monster heel. Wyatt is both terrifying and talented, the perfect storm.
It is his time to make his mark and show WWE how wrong they were when he was rambling on and losing every match. That journey begins at SummerSlam and hopefully, the Fiend will dispose of Finn Balor with ease. Bray Wyatt truly has the whole world in his hands.
