A part of the McMahon family's “fresh start” plans was to do away with the automatic rematch clause. Triple H clearly stated that the rule was abolished and there were going to be no handouts to the superstars anymore.

Talking to Rollins, who had lost his Intercontinental Champions, at that time, Hunter said: ”Nothing is going to be handed to anybody anymore. There is going to be no automatic anything. Which is why I’m here to tell you that your automatic rematch for the Intercontinental championship that you think was going to happen here tonight is not going to happen.”

This might just be the rule that is stopping Brock Lesnar from getting a rematch too. Another way for WWE to show that WWE Universe that they treat everyone equally and there are no ‘special rules’ in place for the top stars.
