At Hell in a Cell earlier this year, the main event of the PPV was an eagerly awaited clash between then Universal Champion Seth Rollins and "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt. The match, which was inside the steel structure, saw Rollins bring out his most dastardly side, inflicting a lot of pain on The Fiend, using various weapons.
But, Rollins took it a little too far when The Fiend got up and kicked out after some vicious blows. The referee stopped the match, which wasn't what the fans wanted to see as boos rung out in the arena.
WWE, perhaps, decided to appease the fans by putting the title on The Fiend at Crown Jewel.
They wouldn't want to make the same mistake that they made at Hell in a Cell once again, which could have been a possibility if The Fiend had faced Lesnar at Survivor Series. Lesnar needs to be protected by WWE, as they have shown in the past, and a loss to The Fiend could have caused more unrest among the fans.
