Since Dean Ambrose's return from injury, things got worse in a storyline sense

Ever since The Shield reunited in 2017, the creative hasn't been pinpoint in their direction with regards to Dean Ambrose. He had bouts against the New Day as a member of The Shield and was then injured for 9 months back in December 2017.

Since Dean Ambrose's return from injury, things got worse in a storyline sense as he became a mere helper to Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in their singles matches. Then finally, in October 2018, the Lunatic Fringe turned heel after attacking Rollins, a move that neither superstar wanted.

Since then, the cluelessness surrounding Dean Ambrose's character became even more intense as the fans didn’t really react well to his heel turn. Dean Ambrose became somewhat of a tweener who looked like he was struggling with personality disorders and that was about it before he turned face again.

He was then used as a jobber due to his contractual situation.
