The phenomenon of Goldberg almost put WWE out of business

In the history of wrestling, there has never been a company that’s gone up against Vince McMahon and won. However, WCW almost did. In fact, in terms of ratings, WCW was far superior to WWE at one point in time. While the mainstay of WCW was the heel stable called nWo, there were several babyfaces who tried to topple this evil faction.
First came DDP, then came a man named Sting in his black and white avatar, and then finally, there was Bill Goldberg. In under a year, he became world champion defeating Hollywood Hulk Hogan on WCW Nitro in July of 1998.
Goldberg was a far ‘hotter’ product in what was the hottest era of sports entertainment. Sure, Brock has been a mainstay since the early 2000s, but there was never as much intensity in the product as the late 90s.
