When you talk about who is the biggest superstar in the modern era of WWE, there is no doubt that John Cena is the man who holds that feat. He is currently the most decorated man in the WWE today as he has held multiple championships. He is a 16-time world champion, tying with Ric Flair's record in the process.
Whether you love or hate The Franchise of WWE, the truth is that you must respect him for everything that he has done for this company. Despite the fact that Ric Flair is a legendary Hall of Fame superstar, John Cena deserves to break the entire record himself. After all, records are indeed made to be broken.
John Cena should no longer be tied with Ric Flair for most world championships held, as instead, he should be the man to break the entire record itself. Here are 5 reasons to back up this statement.
#5 He has other commitments
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
It's no secret that John Cena is performing on a part-time schedule, due to the fact that he has other commitments such as movies and TV shows. There are clearly other things that The Franchise of WWE wants to pursue in his career, and that is completely understandable.
On the other hand, the current Universal Champion is Brock Lesnar, and many fans all over the world have stated their disappointment in the fact that Lesnar doesn't appear every night on Raw as the world champion should. You could make the same argument for Cena if he ever held the world title, which is why he needs to break the all-time world championship record in the WWE as soon as possible.
Cena is only going to get busier as he progresses in his life at Hollywood, whereas now he is able to appear on Raw and Smackdown whenever he feels like it.
In the WWE, you currently have many superstars who are on the verge of rising to megastar status. It's clear to see that Vince McMahon is heavily pushing the likes of Seth Rollins and AJ Styles, with many other talents who are on the rise such as Andrade, Drew McIntyre, Rusev and Finn Balor, it would be better for WWE to have Cena win a world title now so that he doesn't stall the momentum of other rising talents in the future.
This will also allow talents such as Rusev and McIntyre to develop further into their own characters whilst performing in the upper mid-card and lower main event picture. With Cena becoming a 17-time world champion, it allows him to hold the title for a while before dropping it to give another superstar the rub.
And this way, you can get the record-breaking moment over and done with so that other talents can emerge as top faces in the future whilst Cena fulfills his duties outside of the wrestling world.
#4 He stands for what he believes in
The Leader of Cenation has always been a very outspoken figure in the WWE. He has always spoken his mind when it has come to the treatment of superstars as well as any issues that have been arising in the WWE or the world itself. One example of Cena standing up for what he believes in is when he had refused to compete at Crown Jewel 2018.
This was because of the controversy that was surrounding the Crown Jewel event, due to the unjust killing of Jamal Khashoggi, which was very upsetting for many people around the world. Cena clearly did not like the idea of WWE going ahead with their decision to keep Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia and boycotted the entire event in the process alongside Daniel Bryan.
However, this does not suggest that Cena has a problem towards the entire Saudi Arabia country itself. WWE had also held The Greatest Royal Rumble 2018 event in Saudi, and this was before all of the controversies. Cena had labeled it an "honor and privilege" to work in Saudi for the PPV event.
This proves that if Cena doesn't agree with something, he will always do what he feels is right and fair despite the amount of money that is involved, as he clearly does live by his motto of "Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect."
#3 He is loyal to the WWE
As stated earlier in this article, it's clear that John Cena has other commitments. But despite the fact that he is now appearing in movies, commercials and TV shows, he has still showcased his loyalty to the WWE multiple times.
WWE management was clearly worried about the fact that Raw and Smackdown weren't living up to the WWE Universe's expectations, which is why The McMahon Family had immediately announced that they would bring change to the WWE in an attempt to give the people what they wanted.
Even though Cena wasn't appearing on television, he still returned to appear on Raw and Smackdown which really does prove how much he cares about the company. Whenever the WWE has needed him in cases of emergency, Cena has always stepped up to help out when required.
#2 He has put over multiple superstars
There are many legends such as Hulk Hogan who were rumored to refuse to put over young talents on the main roster. At first, Cena was also somebody who never put over other superstars as he also refused to let Nexus defeat him at SummerSlam 2010 despite the fact that The Nexus stable was at the peak of its career.
But in this day and age, it's clear to see that Cena managed to learn from his mistakes as he has put over so many WWE superstars over the last couple of years.
John Cena had previously refused to put over Nexus during SummerSlam 2010 whilst The Nexus stable was at the peak of its career. But it's clear to see that Cena has learned from his mistake. At No Mercy 2018, we saw Roman Reigns go one on one with John Cena in a match where Reigns had come out on top, as Cena had "passed the torch" to Reigns.
At WrestleMania 34, we finally witnessed the match that we had all been waiting for as The Undertaker went one on one with Cena. Despite the fact that The Deadman is reaching the end of his career, Cena had still taken the loss to The Phenom which shows you how dedicated he really is to the WWE.
Another example of Cena putting over superstars is on January 1st, 2019 on the New Year's Day edition of SmackDown Live, when Cena had teamed up with Becky Lynch to challenge Andrade and Zelina Vega in a Mixed Tag Team match. We saw Cena practically get humiliated and shown up by Becky Lynch, and the fact that he was willing to do this really shows how much he cares about the rising talent.
Also, on the 14th January 2019 episode of Raw, we saw a Fatal Four Way match which consisted of Finn Balor, Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre and John Cena himself. Balor went onto win the match by pinning Cena, and after the match, Cena had endorsed Balor to the entire WWE Universe by telling him that he believed in him. This is a further indication to prove the fact that Cena is trying to help as many of the young talents as he can.
#1 A potential rivalry with Daniel Bryan
When it comes to superstars that could possibly have a fantastic rivalry with John Cena, the first and best name that immediately springs to mind is none other the WWE Champion himself, Daniel Bryan.
Cena and Bryan have plenty of history, as the two men have faced off before at SummerSlam 2013 when Cena defended his WWE Championship against Bryan in a losing effort. During the build-up to 2013's Hottest Party of the Summer, Cena was given the choice of picking his opponent for Summerslam, and he chose Bryan.
But fast forward to 2019, and both superstars are in different positions than they were before. Bryan may be the WWE Champion, but he is currently competing at the "New Daniel Bryan" who despises the WWE Universe due to the fact that he feels they are all polluting the environment and the nature that surrounds the world.
I have stated in previous articles that there are many superstars who go against everything that Daniel Bryan stands for, but there isn't anybody who goes against Bryan's motives more than John Cena. Due to the amount of merchandise that Cena sells, and the fact that the kids love him, this could be a great way for Bryan to target Cena.
A potential match between John Cena and Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 is something that many fans have stated that they would like to see. It would be a rematch that is 6 years in the making, which would make a perfect tagline for the match.
Seeing Daniel Bryan drop the WWE Championship to John Cena so that Cena can break the all-time record for the number of world championships held, would simply be a fantastic way to reward Cena for all the blood, sweat, and tears that he has put into this business.
