This past week on SmackDown Live, we saw a mixed tag team match between the winners of the second season of Mixed Match Challenge, R Truth and Carmella, against the team of The Miz and Mandy Rose.
In the segment before the match, The Miz asked for Vince McMahon's blessings backstage, and surely the Chairman gave one of the most beautiful blessings to the A-Lister.
The Miz was sent out to battle in a tag team where his partner wasn't revealed until The Golden Goddess' theme song hit, and stunned the WWE Universe. Nobody expected Mandy to come out and team up with The Miz, and not only did Mandy team up with the Miz, the duo defeated The Fabulous Truth on SmackDown Live.
The fans are still confused about Mandy Rose joining forces with The Miz, and here are the 5 possible reasons why this happened.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 To prove that the Mixed Match Challenge was a joke
R Truth and Carmella won the Mixed Match Challenge II, and will enter their Royal Rumble matches at #30. Now, this tournament featured 10 teams from RAW and SD Live, and the Fabulous Truth winning it hinted that the MMC was no less than a joke.
MMC season II had the likes of AJ Styles, Asuka, Charlotte Flair, Braun Strowman, Ember Moon, Finn Balor, and other top stars of the company. Yet somehow the creative team thought of pushing the jobber teams of Mahalicia and Fabulous Truth to the final.
These teams had lost 4 matches in the first round, yet managed to overcome the odds to reach the final. This signaled how low the WWE rated the MMC, and they just proved that on SD Live by handing a defeat to the MMC II champions.
#4 To move Mandy Rose out of the angle involving Sonya Deville
With the announcement of the women's tag team championships possibly not happening soon, it looks like the creative team has no plans for the team of Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. So, they might be looking to put a halt on their run as a tag team.
We had witnessed seeds of disintegration sown between Mandy and Sonya around WWE Evolution, and The Golden Goddess even teased a heel turn on Deville.
However, that storyline had no advancement, and soon they started teaming up once again. Pairing Mandy with The Miz on SD Live could lead to a new beginning for The Golden Goddess. Deville could be kept off TV for some time, so as to drive Mandy towards a new storyline.
#3 Because the WWE wanted to freshen things up
This past week on Monday Night RAW, we saw Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Shane McMahon come out and promise the WWE fans a new beginning & a fresher product.
The creative team indeed pulled up its socks and gave us several interesting match-ups on TV. Be it the Revival's victory on RAW, the 6 NXT call-ups, the return of the Good Brothers and Sanity to WWE TV, or the rise of Mustafa Ali, all of a sudden WWE TV looks attractive once again.
Pairing Mandy Rose with The Miz was just the next step in this direction. We had never seen The Miz team up with Mandy Rose, so having an out of the blue mixed tag team match on SD Live certainly generated interest amongst the fans.
#2 To advocate the introduction of the mixed tag team championship belts
Well, I know the WWE Universe want the creative team to introduce the women's tag team championships, but thinking logically, it seems like it would be better if the WWE introduces the mixed tag team championships.
I mean, the number of mixed tag team matches have increased a lot in the last 2 years, thanks to the MMC.
The concept of having a male and a female superstar in a tag team has certainly interested the fans, and thus bringing the mixed tag team championships to WWE TV could improve the quality of content.
A lot of superstars who are directionless on WWE TV (just like The Miz and Mandy Rose) will get something worthy to fight for, instead of taking part in meaningless matches on random episodes of RAW and SD Live.
#1 To takeover Marsye's position on WWE TV
The Miz was one of the top heels of the company not long ago, and some credit for his success goes to his wife, Maryse. Her presence in his corner during matches drew huge heat towards the A-Lister, and ever since Maryse has been off TV, The Miz has been floundering on WWE TV.
Its been a long time since The Miz was part of a PPV, and Maryse's absence has played a major role in his downfall.
If there's one woman who can takeover Maryse's position on TV, it is Mandy Rose. Even R Truth referred her as Maryse during the pre-match promo (you can watch the video below). The creative team can align Mandy permanently with The Miz, to re-establish him as a top heel once again.
