At a time when Okada and Omega are rewriting the book of professional wrestling, hardcore wrestling fans have a far better alternative to the WWE action they see on a weekly basis. Dave Meltzer recently claimed that even Impact Wrestling puts on a better weekly show than WWE does.
At such a time, catapulting a star like Sami Zayn into the limelight can yield benefits galore, by bringing back the hardcore paying audience back to WWE. With Zayn holding the briefcase and possibly winning the championship in the near future, it gives the WWE audience a lot more legitimacy among the IWC and can even increase network subscriptions and merchandise sales over the long haul.
