Once the crowd gets behind a certain superstar, it is almost guaranteed that they will reach heights of success. However, there are plenty of superstars who thrive when people hate the character they portray. Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens are two such superstars on the current roster.
Make no mistake; their presence is both essential and pivotal for the company.
Here are the reasons why:
#5 They defy the need for a chiselled body
Sharp looks and toned muscles topped with abs; you can throw out of the window the idea that these are the must-haves for success, as far as these two are concerned. They have successfully broken this stereotype.
There are only a few superstars in the wrestling business nowadays who have left a lasting impression on the fans worldwide without a toned body. Thankfully, Owens and Joe are two superstars of that honorary club.
We love the fact that they depend on what they do in the ring rather than how they look in the ring.
#4 Awesome Promos
Their performance inside the ring speaks volumes about their wrestling talent. But their speaking skills aren’t any less.
We see Kevin Owens speaking at length on every Tuesday night. He has been convincingly vocal about Shane McMahon's vendetta against him. As recently seen, he speaks everything needed for the Yep movement, except for ‘Yep’ itself.
Samoa Joe has been recently at the top of his voice whenever he speaks about The Shield. When he rubbed in Renee’s face the fact that he took her husband out of action, it was one of his high points in recent storylines.
They certainly know how to piss people off, both by actions and words.
#3 Major Draws
Kevin Owens highlighted the year 2017 with his rivalry against Shane McMahon. And as far as 2018 is concerned, this feud is far from being finished. Along with Shane, Owens has faced almost every major name on the Blue brand.
Notably, Owens has been the catalyst for one of the most anticipated matches for WrestleMania 34, Daniel Bryan vs. Shane McMahon.
Samoa Joe has gone toe-to-toe with all the big time players of the Monday nights. Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose; Joe has fought them all. No one is left on the Red brand that hasn’t been in the claws of the Coquina Clutch.
Fans were expecting exciting performances from these two at the Royal Rumble, but now that Samoa Joe is out of action, it's upto Kevin Owens to deliver in his WWE title match
#2 Consistent Performers
From the last one year, there would seldom be a moment when these two could be accused of coming short of expectations. Every time these two superstars were in the ring, fans were treated to a classic match.
Kevin Owens has given us a rivalry to remember with the McMahons, Chris Jericho, Sami Zayn, and with the "Viper", Randy Orton. His match at the HIAC against Shane McMahon was a spectacular one, which ended with Owens' reunion with his old friend, Sami Zayn.
Similarly, Samoa Joe has been part of classic matches with all the three members of the Shield. He is one of the rare heels who compels the crowd to chant his name every time he makes his way to the ring.
There are a lot of wrestlers who claim that they work day in and day out for this business, but the performance of these Superstars over the past year speaks for itself.
#1 Must-see Heels
The Miz might claim the Miz-TV to be the must-see show, but one can’t imagine a show for WWE (let alone the PPVs) without these two.
As heels, both Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe are able to generate such a level of emotions that fans would love to punch them. They have made people love to hate them.
It will be interesting to see who of these two gets the “Heel of the Year” award. Who do you think it should be? Let your voice be heard in the comments section below.
