The seeds for a women's match headlining the show of shows were planted right after Wrestlemania 34 last year. The dirt sheets began reporting that the WWE was planning on having Charlotte Flair challenge Ronda Rousey at the 35th edition of the annual extravaganza.
The plans suddenly took a turn when a bloodied Becky Lynch closed the Raw before Survivor Series, taking social media by storm and completing her transformation from a bubbly, cheerful face to a no-nonsense, fearless badass!
As of now, Becky is suspended and out of the match, but one doesn't need to be a wrestling expert to realize that this storyline is heading towards a triple threat match for the Raw women's title at the grandest stage of them all. The problem?
There's still no confirmation on whether the match will be the main event of the show or not. Vince Mcmahon has been known to make last minute changes to major matches and is still unsure on the placement of the three-way showdown on the Mania card. There's still a possibility of Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar to headline the April Classic but, it's may finally be time for the women to shine on the biggest platform in sports entertainment.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Here are five reasons why that shouldn't happen and why the triple threat should close WrestleMania 35...
#5 The culmination of the Women's Revolution
We have come a long way from the time when women's matches were considered nothing more than 2-minute bathroom breaks. They were treated more as eye candies than actual wrestlers. The women's revolution changed all that and the division improved tenfold over the course of four years.
Women got their own specialty matches - be it Hell in a Cell, Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber. The four horsewomen, AJ Lee, Paige and a bunch of other wrestlers gave us some amazing moments and solidified the fact that women were capable of doing much more than what the WWE had allowed them to do in the past.
The Raw women's title match is the culmination of the women's revolution. It's a pivotal moment that's the result of years of consistent hard work and determination on the women's part. It deserves to be the match that closes the show. WWE owes it to its women.
#4. Paving the way for future female wrestlers
WWE's NXT brand is chock-full of some of the finest wrestlers in the world. There's a bunch of women in there, ready to take that brass ring and run with it on the main roster. Superstars like Kairi Sane, Bianca Belair, and Shayna Baszler are the future of the women's division and could very well be at the top spot in a couple of years.
Imagine what this match headlining the show could do to their morale! It would make them strive for the top prize, resulting in more quality matches and promos. The day won't be far when women main-eventing Wrestlemania becomes a regular thing. There's a lot riding on this triple threat match, and WWE would be better off pulling the plug and making it the main event of a star-studded evening.
#3. Incredible star power
WWE has three of the most popular women striving for the Raw women's title at present.
Ronda Rousey is a former UFC champion and has been booked like the female equivalent of Brock Lesnar. She has proved her mettle in pro-wrestling over the past year, ever since she debuted at last year's Wrestlemania.
Charlotte Flair has been at the center stage of the women's revolution. The daughter of the legendary Ric Flair, wrestling is in her blood as she has put on some amazing performances in the past, against the likes of Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch.
Becky Lynch was stuck in the women's mid-card for a long time. Her cheerful babyface character didn't do her any favors. Her heel turn, complete with that iconic shot of her bloodied face on Raw, single-handedly changed the main event of Wrestlemania and she's making waves with "The Man" gimmick.
This is the perfect recipe for the main event that could close the show, instead of Rollins-Lesnar, a match that had actually happened before and isn't being built as heavily as the triple threat match.
#2. A year-long build
Very few matches in Wrestlemania history have had lengthy builds, spanning almost a year. The Rock vs. John Cena at Wrestlemania 28 immediately comes to mind. That match broke the buy rate records that were previously held by Wrestlemania 23.
The triple threat has been build up over the past several months, with WWE protecting Ronda and Charlotte in every way possible. The inclusion of Becky was a bonus that has made this match way more intriguing than it already was. The ladies involves have been beating the hell out of each other since last year's Survivor Series.
The WWE Universe can't wait to see the three of them share the same ring and settle it out to determine the absolute best among the trio. Compared to Rollins vs. Lesnar, whose build kicked off recently when The Architect won the Rumble match, the triple threat has a lengthy storyline arc and deserves to close the show.
#1 The final visual to end Wrestlemania 35
As much as the fans would love to see Rollins conquer the beast to end the reign of terror and end the show, the alternative is a much better prospect.
It's clear that WWE is building this story with Becky being the main focus. The journey that began with her crimson face is bound to culminate at Wrestlemania. Simply put, Becky leaving the show with her hand held high is almost a lock.
What better way to end Wrestlemania than a shot of "The Man", holding the Raw women's title in her hands, after going through hell in a hard-hitting match with Charlotte and Rousey?
Now that's a moment that can deservedly be called WrestleMania-worthy with the Irish Lasskicker completing a well-crafted story by winning the Raw Women's title.
