WWE is the clear industry leader when it comes to professional wrestling. To be a Champion in WWE is like being at the apex of the professional wrestling business. The Revival scratched the clawed their way from NXT. They perfected the art of tag team wrestling and told incredible stories in the ring, each time the bell rang.
And then, their dream came true. They were called up to the main roster and made a part of the most elite bunch of WWE superstars in the world. That is until just a few days ago when they allegedly asked for a release from their contracts.
Why do The Revival want to step away from everything they've worked so hard to achieve? I will try and explain why, in this 5-point speculative article.
Because I don't know the real reason myself, I invite you to voice your thoughts in the comments.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 State of the tag team division
This is the narrative doing the rounds right now, all over the internet, thanks to Pro Wrestling Sheet. The Revival, just like a lot of the Tag Team Division, are not happy at how the division is being handled at the moment. This stems from poor promos and a general lack of direction across the entire division.
I ask you, can you blame them? You have a veteran in Bobby Roode and a hungry newcomer in Chad Gable square off against the monstrous Authors of Pain, and you have the match end with Drake Maverick stealing Bobby Roode's robe and taking it to the toilet? It is a massive step down even if you compare it to Roode's Beer Money Inc. run.
The Revival is obviously not happy with the way things currently are. Let's hope they change for the better.
#4 Their NXT vs. main roster run
If you think their entire time in WWE has been a bust, you are quite mistaken. Anyone who has followed NXT for any real length of time knows that The Revival refer to themselves as 'top guys' for a reason. The duo put on some of the best matches in the history of the brand every time they were presented with two suitable contenders.
If you haven't seen it yet, check out their matches with American Alpha. Better yet, just check out the clinic that they put on with the likes of #DIY back in the old days when Ciampa and Gargano were still on the same page. I promise you, you'll be entertained.
Fast forward to their time on the main roster and see how badly they have been booked. And this is despite the fact that fans have constantly been rooting for them.
#3 Being put in one illogical storyline after another
It's been two years since The Revival was called up to the main roster. And what have they accomplished in the time that they've spent on RAW? I cannot think of anything significant at all. And this is a crying shame.
Remember how The Revival was buried by everyone in DX and The Club at RAW 25? Remember how they feuded with Lucha House Party in a feud that concerned Lucha House Rules? They always seemed on the verge of greatness, but something was always amiss.
And even now, their matches against Roode and Gable have been ending in controversial fashion, week after week. Considering how good both teams are they should just be asked to tear it up in the middle of the ring on a near-weekly basis, I believe.
Imagine if The Hardyz, Edge and Christian and The Dudleyz had to feud over Lucha House Rules!
#2 The future doesn't look very promising
Let's assume that The Revival ends up becoming RAW Tag Team Champions. What is the next step for them? Will WWE allow them to hold on to the titles for a long time and defend the Championship in sterling displays of athleticism?
The answer, to be blunt and honest, is no! Cesaro and Sheamus had a great run on RAW, putting on one clinic after another, and they had to relinquish their titles to Braun Strowman and a ten-year-old kid at WrestleMania 34. It is unlikely that they will rise to the same level of fame and acclaim that they enjoyed in NXT, on RAW.
Unlike Cesaro and Sheamus, I do not see them enjoying great singles careers either if they were to be split up. It makes all the sense in the world for The Revival to ply their trade elsewhere and increase their stock in the market, before making a potential return.
#1 The arrival of All Elite Wrestling
Ever since WCW shut shop, a professional wrestler could work in WWE, which was the big league or elsewhere. TNA had its heydays and so did ROH, but neither posed a threat to the dominant industry leader. But All Elite Wrestling could change all that and how! It is owned by The Khan Family, a dynasty that is even richer than the McMahon family.
So, The Revival may want to make their way to AEW soon. AEW has made it clear that they want The Revival among their ranks. We may even get to see the dream match between The Revival and The Young Bucks if the former sign with the company.
Do you think The Revival should stay on in WWE? Or would you rather have them move to AEW in the months that follow?
