Perhaps one of the good things coming out of Raw is the team of Cesaro and Sheamus.
Ever so the odd couple, these two men are providing some comedic relief through being paired together after their best of seven series of matches came to a draw. Now having to team together, Cesaro and Sheamus find ways to irritate the other and often argue among themselves. However, they still find ways to win despite the drama between them.
For me, I can’t help but think of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels when it comes to Cesaro and Sheamus. Back in 1997, the two would team up but they certainly didn’t get along. They ended up fighting most of the time, but still managed to capture the WWF Tag Team Championships.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
This was just before the Attitude Era would change the face of the business of pro wrestling. Cesaro and Sheamus are a throwback to that of sorts, with updated twists in their story, if you will.
Beneath the surface, this was a smart move by the company. I explain five reasons why. Starting now.
#1 The way they were brought together
As fans know, the Best of Seven series brought Cesaro and Sheamus together.
The two started to feud, with Sheamus interfering in Cesaro’s matches. Raw General Manager Mick Foley decided the two had to go against each other in a Best of Seven series. The last match they had at Clash of Champions went to a no contest, which brought on drama and great effort from both men.

Enter Foley once more.
He set Cesaro and Sheamus up as a team after the No Contest ruling at Clash of Champions. Because he was impressed with their effort, Foley thought they could work as a team. While the two still bicker and carry on, they find a way to make the team work, even pinning Tag Team Champions The New Day on an episode of Raw.
#2 Odd favourites to be Tag Team Champions
Cesaro and Sheamus hold a non-title victory over The New Day, but had ultimately failed to capture the Championships from the dominant team. That’s not to say that the team can’t be successful again. It wouldn’t be a surprise for the fans if Cesaro and Sheamus were the ones to end The New Day’s historic Championship reign.
The comedy and drama between the two men would be heightened most certainly if they did win.
That’s why I think of Austin and Michaels with this team. Even after winning the Tag Team Championships, the team would come to blows regardless. It would be more about ego than anything. Who pulls the weight for the team? Who’s the better partner? Stuff like that would be the trigger point.
#3 Coexisting proves to be difficult
While getting along proves difficult for the men, it creates a good story. Good drama engages the audience, and with them adding their own spin to the feud is gold. Have you seen the Facebook Live videos both men have done? It is simply amazing stuff. Just that detail makes this worth watching every week.
Cesaro and Sheamus are definitely the odd couple in this. Everyone loves Cesaro, and it’s the opposite feeling with Sheamus. Both play their parts well, and the final result comes out great.
#4 Teaming up helps them
Both Cesaro and Sheamus needed a story. With everything else that is going on, it is easy for talent to get lost in the shuffle easily. Simply put, this was a great move to bring two guys together who needed a solid storyline to further their careers.
When the draft happened, Cesaro cut a shoot promo after it was over citing his frustrations about his place in the company.
Fans and other talent alike highly agree that Cesaro deserves much better than what he’s getting. However, this is a start in terms of resurrecting both men. Sheamus had been on the decline for a while too, especially after his lacklustre run with the WWE World Championship last year.
#5 Seeds for a new feud
While we have already seen the feud play out at this point, with the men teaming up, perhaps it can bring new life to their impending feud. Both the men and fans deserve an ending and we may get to see that down the road. Once the tag team has imploded for good, it will be back to square one, literally.
But with new elements to bring to the feud, if done right it will be successful for both wrestlers. In instances like this, just the elements of the feud other than a Championship can help the feud get over. Both men have what it takes to make this a memorable story for the ages.
