#4 Boost Fox ratings
WWE has made every effort in the world to ensure their move to Fox is the biggest TV debut around. The higher-ups have done their best to ensure that the Blue Brand is now seen as an equal to Monday Night RAW. If equality is what the WWE powers that be are interested in, then John Cena is much needed on Friday nights.
What better way to usher in a new era on Fox than to have the most famous name in wrestling history as the brand’s champion. John Cena is the perfect man to help introduce Fox viewers who might not be familiar with WWE programming to wrestling. Cena is a star with crossover appeal, and would help establish WWE’s footing on a new platform. After a title run, Cena could build up another Superstar and inevitably drop the championship. Such a move would only make another star in the process.
#3 Hollywood Audience
Let’s be clear, John Cena is now officially a box office draw. He’s not only a WWE Superstar, but he’s also a Hollywood mega star. When Cena first went into acting, many thought he wouldn’t appear in more than a few small-time comedy cameos. Instead, the 42-year-old has entered a new world of stardom at the box office. His co-lead role in the latest Transformers film has solidified him as big business. This was further verified by Vin Diesel personally choosing him for the next Fast & Furious film.
Nobody is saying that John Cena is on the same level as The Rock, but he definitely has a bigger fanbase now than he did before the acting. That’s why one more world title run would be of value to both parties. The run would bring all those Hollywood eyes to WWE programming while simultaneously allowing Cena to promote his upcoming films.
