Since Bryan is expected to maintain distance from the ring for a while, he can be helpful for the show by adopting an essential backstage role. He often shares his creative input with the writers. Most recently, he was involved in the entire feud with Roman Reigns and Edge on SmackDown that led to a triple-threat match for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 37.

In fact, he was the one who suggested the infamous spot during this WrestleMania match when both Edge and Bryan held Reigns in double submission.
